- The Comptons appear first in Chitterne in Wiltshire in 1545 when John and Avis Compton each pay 6s 8d to Henry VIII as benevolence tax. Father may have been John? (tax 1545). Brother: John? (tax 1576). Sister: Blanche?
- many birth dates for this family, as well as birth order, are very rough guesses
Edward married Isabell MILLS, daughter of Walter MILLS (ca1500-). Born ca 1530 in England. Isabell died in Chitterne St. Mary, Wiltshire, England, in 1589; she was 59.

- Father: Walter Mills. Brother: Walter Mills.
- Left a will of 1588 [or 1589]. Isabell’s inventory is extant. They were yeoman farmers with land for crops, sheep and a relatively confortable lifestyle.
