- Called JOHN “THE BEEKEEPER” COMPTON by another researcher - John Compton wrote his will in 1610 and wrote it himself. He left 10 beehives as well as the usual things like horses, sheep etc. It is from his son Tristram that the Chitterne lines comes down. - flourishing in 1588 - John the Elder married and had children. He made a Will and died. We think that he was very ill when another boy was born and,in order to keep the John, obviously an honoured ancestral name, they called the new baby John too. Then the older John pulled through. We have nothing on John the Younger because the records are patchy with bits missing. fl. means flourished,e.g.they were known to be alive at that point, John appears in his father`s will and his mother`s,the latter being 1588. - probae 1623
