RESEARCH NOTES:
- St Issey is almost half way down (west) on the Cornwall north coast, about 2 miles south of Padstow. [wikipedia] - what was the family doing so far from Poughill (1 mile north of Bude)?
- there were 3 baptisms for a Thomas Cornish in St Issey of interest:
25 Mar 1630, Thomas son of Henry Cornish and Ann Stribly
3 Jul 1639, Thomas son of William Cornyshe and Ann Harte
3 Jan 1654, Thoms son of William Cornish
- I couldn’t initially find connection with other related Cornish line, as per the following:
Note that at the same time as this [3rd Cornish] generation at Poughill, a Thomas Cornish married Honour Rundle, both of the parish, on 5 Feb 1679/80 (ref findmypast and parish record) [and OPC database].
I have been unable to find Thomas' baptism in this parish or anywhere else in Cornwall. [a later source found a birth/bapt in St Izzey - an unlikely sounding place - making him the son of William]
They subsequently had children at Poughill: Elizabeth (bap 2 Aug 1682, buried 9 Aug 1682), Mary (bap 19 Oct 1683), Thomas (bap 28 Dec 1687), Sampson (bap 18 Jan 1690), Margaret (bap May 1694), William (bap 31 Jan 1696), Honor (bap 1701; she married 14 Apr 1728 to James Yeo). No doubt they had many descendants of the name of Cornish in the same area.
- Honor Cornish’s parents were Thomas and Honor and [Sheila claims] that Thomas was a grandson of Rev John Cornish. How did you connect this Thomas to the Thomas, son of William, baptised 1654 in St Issey halfway down the Cornwall north coast? If find this connection to be a bit tenuous due to the unusual location. The OPC index for St Issey has another Thomas Cornish (son of William Cornyshe and Ann Harte) baptised in 1639, and a 3rd Thomas Cornish (son of Henry Cornish and Ann Stribly) baptised in 1630, so there were other Cornish families there already that the 1654 Thomas could have been affiliated with instead. So hard to tell who is connected to who!...Â
Sheila’s response: I have now taken this off of the tree until I can prove it. I know it is somewhere in amongst these, mainly because Thomas was a blacksmith.
On 5 Feb 1679/80 when Thomas was 26, he married Honour RUNDLE in Poughill, Cornwall, England. Born ca 1654.
