Second Generation
Family of Paul HENSON (1) & Elizabeth STROEHER?
2. Winedrey “Winnie” HENSON (Paul1). Born in 1737 in North Carolina, USA.

RESEARCH NOTES:
- This info is from other researchers and likely contains errors. If she was really born about 1737, this was well before her parents marriage (Paul and Elizabeth), if in 1744). Was she really in her late 40s when her children were born???
- listed as Wintry Henson, b between 1740-1770
- Winnie died between 1811 - 1862. [yet marriage date was 1 Aug 1812???!]
- lists 22 [!] children born between 1766 and 1811 (45 years!); 2 are listed with the same name (Betsy Phoebe) each marrying a different person) - could this be 2 different families??? - not possible if she was born in 1737 and didn’t start having babies until age 29????? Was he married several times????
Winedrey “Winnie” married James Theopholus LEWIS in Clay County, Kentucky, USA. Born on 9 Aug 1735 in Wales, UK. James Theopholus died in Cutshin, Leslie County, Kentucky, USA, on 1 Dec 1825; he was 90. Buried in 1826 in John C Lewis Cemetery, Leslie County, Kentucky, USA.

Veteran was pensioned at the rate of $8 per month commencing January 10th, 1828, for 18 months service as a private in the North Carolina Continental line.

- Probably William and Ann Henson of Knox Co, KY. Evidence: Pension application filed by each for his Revolutionary War service. Data revealed in application: He was born 1745 and saw three tours of duty in NC. Her application said he died 20 Sept 1830 [another transcript says Sept 20 1831]. It also named following issue: Nancy, William, Paul, Christnah, Isaac, Susannah, Mary, Robert, Christopher, Ellen and Ann. [ transcript says prior to 1794: Nancy, William, John, Paul, Christenah, Isaac; after 1794: Susannah, Lurean, Mary, Robert, Christessla or Christopher, Ann - 12 children in total].

RESEARCH NOTES:
- Perhaps their son William and Lavina Osburn named their own children William and Ann for his parents.??

- number of children vary, as well as birthdates - 14 (including Larkin and James), with Paul (1788-1849) or12 only, with Paul 1778-1874 - pension files only list 12 children, not including James and Larkin.

- Wm Henson [Billy’s] parents may have been Wm and Anna Henson of Knox Co, KY. Evidence from Rev. War service pension applications made by each. [although their son William’s birthdate was listed as being before 1794 rather than 1803??] These indicate that Wm was born in 1745, and did three tours of duty in NC. Anna's application says Wm d. 20 Sep 1830.

RESEARCH NOTES:
From other researchers:
- 12 children listed in pension file, so removed Larkin Henson and James Henson from this family.
- children don’t appear to be listed in birth order, or many of the dates previously entered may be incorrect? Or is it possible that at the age of 90 she no longer remembers which children were born before and after 1794???? Or is the transcript really faulty?

- from a descendant: “The closest Native American ancestor I can find is Ann Jacobs, whom Jess Wilson claimed was a "Jacobs Cherokee"
“The "Jacobs Cherokee" is a puzzle. Jacobs is a very minor name in the Cherokee tribe, but very prominent among the Shawnee, the Lumbee, (which is a mixture of a number of eastern shore NC and VA tribes),  and the Waccamaw Siouan tribes.
“I believe Ann was of Shawnee descent, which might explain part of the reason William and Ann traveled all the way back to Harper's Ferry to marry. The "headquarters" of the Shawnee tribal homeland was nearby, just a couple miles northwest of Winchester, VA.
“It's also possible she was from a Lumbee Jacobs family. Just a few years before William found her "upon the waters of the Watauga," a number of Lumbees migrated northwestward and settled in the mountains of NC and Tennessee. The Lumbee Jacobs family originated from the Gingaskin Indians of the Virginia peninsula and the Croatan.”
