says Nancy Henson was born 1788 in Wilkes NC

- Nancy's father William seems to have fought in the Revolutionary War in NC (perhaps 3 terms) - although William was likely born in VA and died in KY - and there was a widow's pension application naming 12 children including a Nancy, although others list up to 13 children with a variety of different birth dates.  One of these says that Nancy was born in 1788 in Wilkes NC; another says in 1790 (no location).

- A descendant and family researcher says:
Nancy Henson, daughter of Wiiliam Henson and Ann Jacobs is my third great-grandmother, but my records show her husband as John S. Miller from Ashe County, son of Johannes Mueller of Rowan County, son of Johannes Mueller and Maria Magdalena Faber from Ephrata, PA.
“Nancy Henson was born in 1788 and married John S. (nicknamed "Slickhead") Miller, born 1784. They resided in the Staggs Creek area of Ashe County, NC after their marriage for their entire lives, appearing on Ashe County Censuses together until 1860.”
“The start of my source for the Nancy Henson and John ("Slickhead") Miller marriage begins with Danny L. Miller's book, "Millers of Ashe County, NC." It states that Nancy Henson's mother was "Jokeps." I believe this is probably a mis-pronunciation of Jacobs, as I'm certain her mother was probably Ann Jacobs who married William Henson.
“Also, I have found census information that puts John Miller living next door to Nancy Henson, near Staggs Creek in Ashe County at just the right time. Numerous Ashe County censuses after this have John and Nancy Miller living together into their 80's.
“There are also a number of genealogy sites stating that Nancy Henson married John S. Miller. (Be careful, there are a lot of John Millers in Ashe County around that time.) They all started with Johannes Mueller, my 6th great-grandfather who lived in Conrad Biessel's Pietist, (Seventh Day Baptist,) Ephrata Cloister, in PA, then moved to the Mahanaim settlement in Fincastle, VA when he was 19, where he married Maria Magdalena Faber and built the first mill there. Frightened away by Indian attacks, he stealthily traveled south-east and took refuge at a Moravian settlement in Rowan County near present day Salem. There are a number of entries in their diary from that time that refer to him.
“I believe that Bill Matheis also posted quite a lot of info about the Hensons and their connection to Harper's Ferry. One thing I've discovered is that there were a lot of William Hensons in Virginia in the 1700's! It's very easy to get confused. I've been very frustrated trying to find more info about "Old Paul Henson," William’s father.”

RESEARCH NOTES
- Book entitled “Millers of Ashe County, NC” is out of print according to Amazon.com:
Unknown Binding: 591 pages
Publisher: D.L. Miller (1988)
Language: English
ASIN: B00071MDQQ
Available online at: http://www.martygrant.com/books/miller/millers-ashe-county.html [link updated 2013]
The chapter entitled “John S. (Old Slicky) Miller starts of page 169. Nancy Henson(?) is mentioned briefly on page 169 and 216 a the probable wife of this John S Miller. The 9 stated children of John S and Nancy Miller are:
1) Eli (Elie) Miller (22 Jan 1809 - Dec 18??), m. Mary Ham (16 Oct 1811 - 26 Apr 1897)
2) Isaac (“Little Ike” Miller (1815 - 1821), m. 3 times... [date death must be wrong if he lived to marry]
3) William Miller (1811 - Oct 1877) m. Catherine (Katy) Miller, d. of JOhn and Comfort (Roten) Miller (1811-27 Aug 1875)
4) Anna Miller (10 Jun 1816 - 21 Mar 1915) m. Adam Miller, son of Isaac and Eve Staley Miller
5) Sylvester (abt 1820 - ?) m. Margaret Duvall
6) Solomon Miller (abt 1821-23 - ?) m. Martha Wilcox 12 Aug 1852 (? - ?)
7) Elizabeth (Betsy) Miller (1826 - 19 May 1913)
8) Mary MIller (abt 1833 - ?) m. Jackson or Alexander Church
9) Susanna Miller (abt 1833 - ?) m. Jonathan Davis - according to the Wade Eller Collection he was the son of John and Susanna/Sarah (Miller) Davis and the grandson of John and Comfornt (Roten) Miller.
[further descendants also listed in this book].
The chapter starting on page 169 states that John was called “Old Slicky” and “Slickhead”, a brother of Isaac (Big Ike) Miller who married Eve Staley who had a son Adam Miller. They were both probably related to a Jonathan Miller who married Margaret Carpenter. Jonathan’s sister Christina Miller married Isaac Taylor. Parentage of John S and Isaac Miller not certain - perhaps sons of one of Jonathan Miller’s brothers.in

- A related compilation can be found online at: http://www.martygrant.com/genealogy/miller/miller-john-rowan.htm and http://www.martygrant.com/genealogy/miller/miller-jonathan-ashe.htm#report

- From another researcher: “John S. Miller's father was Johannes Mueller Jr. (aka John Miller Jr. - though depending on timing, location and circumstances it seems almost all John Millers in NC have been listed as both Sr. and Jr. on various censuses, so things get very confusing and lots of errors have been made.) No one is certain who the wife of Johannes Mueller Jr. was, although you may find a few web-posters claiming it was Comfort Roten, but they are mistaken. (She did marry a John Miller, just not ours.) The best guess of his spouse being a "Jane Hickerson" was put forward by cousin Darrell Miller, but the evidence is scant and still somewhat questionable. The interesting thing to me is that this particular John Miller appears on the 1820 Ashe County Census with a wife and six children, then on the 1830 census he is in the same location, but alone. Wish I knew what happened! He died in 1835.
Johannes Mueller Jr.'s father and mother were Johannes Mueller and Maria Magdalena Faber.
Danny Miller's book is the best reference for this material and MartyGrant.com has good info, too.”

- From another researcher: “Despite claims on the web, I am a bit skeptical that our John Miller actually built the mill in Fincastle. He would have been just 19 years old, (although that was practically middle-aged in those days) and there were two other JMs there at the time.  One thing in his favor though, the Moravian records from Bethabara contain an entry saying, "Mr Miller ordered mill stones," so perhaps he was practicing his trade there, too.”

- From another researcher: Nancy Henson’s husband’s name listed as John Vunkannon [incorrect]
- name listed by a descendant as:
“John S. Miller from Ashe County, son of Johannes Mueller of Rowan County, son of Johannes Mueller and Maria Magdalena Faber from Ephrata, PA.”

By law each heir must relinquish their rights to the land; otherwise, the buyer would not have a clean deed. If one lived in another county or state, then they would have to receive a copy to sign and have notarized.]

From other researchers:
- “William "Billy" Henson moved with his parents as a young man to Knox County, Kentucky. It was in this county that he met and married Lavina Osburn who was born and raised in this area. By the mid 1840's Billy, Lavina, and their children came with a train of wagons traveling to Arkansas. They settled in the white house [white river township?] community area of Washington county where Billy ran and operated a store, providing for his children. By this time his older children were marrying and starting lives of their own. Here in White Rock Community William, and lavina lived out their lives.”
