First Generation
1. John BOORMAN. Born abt 1515 in Cranbrook or Hawkhurst, Kent, England. John died in Hawkhurst, Kent, England, in Jan 1570/71; he was 56. Buried on 17 Jan 1570/71 in Hawkhurst, Kent, England. Occupation: broadweaver.

RESEARCH NOTES
- 4 of his children (William, Thomas, John and Elizabeth) married 4 Peende siblings. Source of this information is apparently the will of Alexander Peende, although the Boorman relationships are not explicitly stated? Also, “the four Boorman/Peende weddings which are all logged in the Cranbrook registers”
“If you have any doubt whatsoever on the marriage of the 4 Boorman siblings to the 4 Peende siblings then you need look no further than the will of Alexander Peende the eldest sibling of Judith, his will of 1592 clearly shows the relationships of his siblings. Catherine Peende Boorman (or Catherina) lived until 1596 so, as you say we have two different Thomas Boormans and this was not the one who married Rebecca Pope and was not , therefore, the son of John and Joan.”

- another researcher proposes he was John Boureman (b 1515 Hawkhurst) who married to Joan( b 1518 Hawkhurst Kent).

- This may be him: “John of Hawkhurst died around 1570 which certainly, date wise, would make it possible that "our" John was his son. In his will proved 14 Mar 1570/71 John bequeaths one of his looms and half the harness and tacking belonging to the same to John jurn [jr], his youngest son. Now we know that John Junr was a broadweaver and it seems that John Sen may also have been the same. John had a wife, Joane, who survived him and sons Thomas, Harry, William (John the youngest) and daughters Ann, Elizabeth and Sara.”
ALSO
This will of John Boreman ... was dated 26 Mar 1569, proved 14 Mar 1570-71. The reference is shown as CANT, A41-141. Youngest son, John, got the lion's share but the 3 girls each received £3-5[6s]-8[d] at age 24 and the three remaining sons received whatever their mother could afford to give them.

- ... The will of one John Boorman (spelled "Borman") made in Hawkhurst, Kent on 26 March 1569, proved on 14 March 1570/1 in the Archdeaconry Court of Canterbury [was] compared ... to the will of John Boorman (who married Judith Peende) made in Cranbrook on 16 March 1624/5, proved on 9 April 1630.
The 1569 will revealed that the John Boorman of Hawkhurst had a wife named Joan and seven children, to whom he bequeathed his worldly possessions. The children were: sons Thomas, Henry, William and John; and daughters Anne, Elizabeth and Sarah. He left "one of my looms and half its accessories" to "my youngest son John Borman." This was a clear indication that he was a broadweaver. It is known from the 1624 will of John Boorman of Cranbrook that he was in fact also a broadweaver. So the bequest of the loom was perfectly consistent with a father-son relationship. Moreover, the dates of the two wills were in the right time frame to be the wills of a father and son, both named John Boorman. The fact that the elder John's will was made in Hawkhurst, while the younger John's will was made in Cranbrook, was not a problem because Hawkhurst was (and still is) only about four miles south southwest of Cranbrook.

- The first Boorman burial [in the Hawkhurst parish abstracts] is that of John Bourman on 17 Jan 1570-1

- The Tyler Index to Parish Registers for Hawkhurst shows a John Bourman was buried in Hawkhurst on 17 January 1570/1.  I viewed the photo image and printed it out.  As John(H) made his will on 26 March 1569 in Hawkhurst, which was proved on 14 March 1570/1, this entry in the Tyler Index has to be for him.  There are no other entries for a John Boorman (including all variants) in this time frame.

RESEARCH NOTES
From other researchers:
- In regard to Joan, there is no burial record for her in the Tyler Index to Parish Registers for Hawkhurst.  John(H)'s burial is there as 17 Jan 1570/1. However, a possible burial is listed in the Canterbury Probate Record index:
Archdeaconry Court of Canterbury (ADC)
Ref PRC/17/41/228, Orig PRC/16/56 B/7
Booreman, Boorman; Joane, Joan, Headcorn; made and probated 1571
- However, Joan and William of Headcorn were husband and wife according to their will abstracts, and don’t seem to have any link to John Boorman of Hawkhurst. So Joan (who made her will in 1571) was not the one married to John.
- A will for a William Boorman is listed, made 1557 in Headcorn, probated 1558 in the ADC, PRC/17/33/78.
They had the following children:
2i.
William BOORMAN (~1540-1582)
3ii.
Thomas BOORMAN (~1542-1581)
4iii.
5iv.
John BOORMAN (~1546-~1630)
6v.
Sara BOORMAN (~1550-)
7vi.
Ann BOORMAN (~1553-1637)
