BUT
- 1615/6 Hawkhurst parish register entries confirm that Thomas was buried on 8 March 1615/6, and his first wife Catherine was buried on 16 May 1576.
Transcriptions from image:
"[1615/6] March Buryed the viijth day [8th] day Thomas? Borrman?" ALSO
"March - buried the viiith [ie 8th] day Thomas Bourman". This is under the heading A.D. 1615, and being at the end of the year indeed represents what we would call 1615/6. It is definitely March rather than February, since it is in chronological order.
[NOTE: 3 different Thomas Boorman's were buried in Cranbrook (not Hawkhurst) on 16 Oct 1581, 22 Sep 1584 and 7 Feb 1617/18 (a child). This has caused much confusion and debate.]
- 1615/16 will of Thomas Boorman the elder of Hawkhurst dated 27 Feb 1615-16 and proved 20 Apr 1616. Will transcribed.
- 1616 Probate 20 April 1616 • Hawkhurst, Kent, England
"Thomas Boorman the elder, late of Hawkhurst" (PRC/17/58/53)
From other researchers:
- 1570/71 Thomas listed in father John Borman's will
My wife Joan [executrix] to pay my sons Thos., Henry, & Wm. what she can when she can.
- Thomas and Catherine had four children (that were alive in 1592). ... Historical evidence of the births of all four children comes from the 1592 will of Catherine's brother, Alexander Peende (see Notes for Thomas' son, John Boorman). [Outdated information: Edward (baptized 28 September 1567), Elizabeth, Annes, and John (born about 1578). So far, only Edward's baptism has been found in Cranbrook parish records.]
NOTE: Subsequent research list 5 children by Thomas's first marriage, and
- No record has yet been found that identifies the occupation of Thomas.
- 1576 Hawkhurst Kent register entries confirm that Thomas was buried on 8 March 1615/6, and his first wife Catherine was buried on 16 May 1576.
Transcriptions for image:
1576 Maie [May] Buried the xvith [16th] Catherin the wife off Thomas? Burmby. ALSO
"Maie - buried the xvith [ie 16th] Catherin the wife of Thomas Burman". The year heading is 1576.
Looking at the transcripts, Tyler [index] employs the ellipsis [....] to represent a blank, just as there is in the original, where the son of Thomas Burman whose burial is recorded is not actually named. "2818" is actually a self-correction ie the 28 is crossed out and replaced by 18 (which, viewing the original, is correct).
The month, which he has omitted, is September. Additionally, I think he uses "Kath" as a standard abbreviation - for what it is worth, the original entry is definitely spelled with a C - we can see the same letter used lower down in the page for Cornelius.
NOTE: conflicting evidence from the Tyler index:
1576 May 21 Boreman, Kath d[?] wife of Thos bur.
1576 — 2812 Boreman ……. Thos bur
- 1592: Listed as Catherine (or Catharina) Peende Boorman in her brother Alexander's will, but her name is apparently spelled with a "K" in the Cranbrook parish registers and/or Archdeacon's transcripts of the same.
- 1592 In Alexander Peende's 1592 will, his sister Katheryn doesn't inherit directly, but her children do: to the four children of my sister Katheryn Booreman, viz Edmunde [sic] Booreman, John Booreman, Elizabeth Booreman and Aynes Booreman, 40 shillings a piece
Also: The actual will further confirms your analysis that Catherine (Katheryn) Peende Boorman, first wife of Thomas Boorman (1616 will), was buried 16 May 1576 in Hawkhurst, not 4 March 1595/6 in Cranbrook. If she were still alive in 1592, her brother Alexander almost assuredly would have left her some money in his will, as he did to his other sisters Elizabeth, Margery, Judith and Margaret.
Also: if Catherine had been living in 1592, she would have been left money by her brother Alexander.
Thomas Boorman married a second time to Rebecca Pope on 15 Oct 1576 in Hawkhurst, Kent, England. They had 4 children:
Catherine (1578- ), William (c1582- ), Thomas (1584- ), Andrew (1586- ).
