RESEARCH NOTES:
On 5 Nov 1849 when John was 24, he married Amelia HAWKER in Church Of St Peter & St Paul, Aston, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. Born on 16 Sep 1824 in Eckington, Worcestershire, England. Occupation: Schoolmistress / Helper.

- 1849 marriage: Amelia Hawker married John Harris 5th November 1849 at the Church of St. Peter & St. Paul at Aston in Warwickshire ( now close to the center of Birmingham our second largest city - a very large and beautiful building) he is shown as living in Evesham, which was a fruit growing area, and Amelia was living at Bordesley (she was born in Eckington) ... It is now an inner suburb of Birmingham which accounts for where they were married and perhaps suggests that she may have been a schoolmistress at some time which we previously considered unlikely. How they met is still a mystery.

RESEARCH NOTES:
- multiple Eckington’s in England: Sheffield, Worchestershire, Derby [google]... 1881 census says Worchester
They had the following children:
27i.
Lucy HARRIS (~1852-)
28ii.
29iii.
Anne HARRIS (~1860-)
30iv.
Emily HARRIS (1863-)
31v.
Clara HARRIS (~1865-)
20. Elizabeth HARRIS (James3, Thomas2, William1). Born on 17 Jul 1828 in Lower Slaughter, Gloucester, England. Christened on 3 Aug 1828 in Lower Slaughter, Gloucester, England. Elizabeth died in Derby, Derbyshire, England, in 1902; she was 73.

- Baptised in Lower Slaughter Gloucester Aug 3, 1828, daughter of James (carpenter) and Lucy Harris, performed by Wm. George, Curate
- 1841 Census, Upper Slaughter, Gloucester: living in parents household, age 12
- 1851 Census, Upper Slaughter, Gloucester: NOT living in parents household
- Daughter of James Harris, Carpenter. A witness at Elizabeth’s wedding was John Simpson, and Martha Harris (mother, sister, cousin or aunt?) [probably her sister]
- may have had a brother William Harris

RESEARCH NOTES:
- Lower Slaughter is in NE Gloucester, just NNW of Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucester. Gloucester itself is in south central England west of South Wales, and is surrounded by: Monmouthshire, Wales (W), Herefordshire (NW), Worcestershire (N), Warwickshire (NE), Oxfordshire (W), Wiltshire (S) and South Gloucestershire (SW)
- Upper Slaughter - The village of Upper Slaughter in the Gloucestershire Cotswolds is one mile away from Lower Slaughter and resides on a gentle grassy slope above the stream that connects the two villages. Once the village was dominated by a Norman castle but all that can be seen of it today are the remains of the motte and bailey. The building that dominates Upper Slaughter is the beautiful gabled Manor House which is one of the finest buildings in the area. The oldest part of the house dates from the 15th century but the front is Elizabethan. The Manor is now a hotel. [from http://www.cotswolds.info/places/upper-slaughter.shtml]

RESEARCH NOTES:
- it is possible that as a lad of 16 in Sep 1841 he set sail for New Zealand: a Henry Richardson, farm labourer, Brede, single 16 (applic reg 17), departed Gravesend Sep 1841 Deal 27 Sep aboard ship Lord Auckland, arr Wellington NZ 7 Feb 1842, then to Nelson 27 Feb (assisted passenger). If so he didn’t stay because he was back in England in 1853 to marry Elizabeth.

- SUSSEX: BREDE is a parish, in the Eastern division of the county, hundred of Gostrow, rape of Hastings, union and county court district of Rye, diocese of Chichester, archdeaconry of Lewes, and rural deanery of Dallington, 6 miles east-north-east from Battle. The church of St. George consists of a nave, side aisles, and three chancels; one of these chancels belongs to the ancient mansion of Brede Place, and was the burying place of the Oxenbridge family; the architecture of this chancel is much more elegant than that of the rest of the church: the interior contains some ancient tombs and brasses. The register dates from the year 1559. The living is a rectory, annual value £900, with residence, in the gift of T. Frewen, Esq., and held by the Rev. Augustus Aylward, M.A. of Oxford. Here is a neat Wesleyan chapel. A fair is held here on Easter Tuesday for cattle and pedlery. The population in 1861 was 1,083. Area of the parish, 4,840 acres.

- NORFOLK:
Henry Proctor Richardson and family moved his family to Weston Longville parish in Norfolk sometime between 1857 and 1860, and he was listed as a gamekeeper there in the 1861 census.

Weston Longville is a civil parish in the English county of Norfolk, approximately 8 miles (13 km) north-west of Norwich. Its name is derived from the Manor of Longaville in Normandy, France, which owned the local land in the 12th century.

In 1836 most of the land belonged to the lord of the manor at Weston House. Fifteen farmers were tenants and in 1888 eleven tenants are recorded plus a tailor, veterinary surgeon, iron founder, agricultural implement manufacturer, gamekeepers, gardeners and carpenters to Colonel Custance at Weston House. The farms and farm buildings remained as part of the Weston estate until the 1960s. Since then most of the farmhouses and buildings have been sold and Weston House has become the clubhouse for the 18-hole golf course. Recently the estate was purchased by Anglian Leisure who has retained the Dinosaur Park with the adventure playground.
