- Memories from her granddaughter Harriet: Grandma R. was born in St. Eleanors she was the eldest of 10 children and worked very hard helping to bring up her siblings her mother was very Delicate !!!!! or so we’ve been told. Grandma was a great horse woman, and so was my mother [Nell], she used to ride side-saddle in Horse Shows when she was young in the town of Summerside, 2 miles to the south. Grandma’s father was George Compton, and [her mother was Eliza Pring Compton, whose grand-] father was Col. Harry Compton who had served his King and Country well and the reigning King at that time reward him by giving him a grant of land in PEI, a lot of land I’ve been told, which he shared with family and friends, and where a large number of Compton’s lived for a lot of years, there are very few of them, if any still living around there. They probably moved away to greener pastures.... “
- Grandma R. worked during her early married life as a Midwife, so she was away a lot when my mother [Nell] was young, so Sydney was quite a cook.
- Ella had a stroke when she was 76, and was bed ridden for 15 years before death at age 91 in 1951, just 2 weeks before her husband Sydney. At least part of her care was provided by her daughter Nell until Nell left PEI to join her family in BC. Later, [Gertrude (Mills) Compton] looked after Ella for two [?] years, while she was bed ridden.
