RESEARCH NOTES
From “Unfolding Mysteries” ancestry tree by Jennifer Venar:
- Gershom Hunt (1751-1829) who married Elizabeth (1752-1800) was the son of Daniel Hunt (1726-1789) and Susannah Green (1730-1798). Gershom’s many siblings were John (1750,1834 who married Charity Hunt), Hannah Hunt Greene (1756-1851), John 1757-1819, Owen 1758-1850, Jonathan 1760-1845), Margaret (1764-1765), Arthur (1767-1827), Abel C (1768-1842, Anne (1769-1791), Emma (1770- ), Absalom (1773-1798), Charity (1773-1774) and Daniel (1776-1850). [Why so many John’s?]
- Daniel Hunt was the son of John Hunt (1688-1741) and Margaret Moore (1698-1752). Daniel’s siblings were Johannah (1713-1789), Wilson (1714-17982), Johnathan (1717-1782), Charity (1718-1770), John (1719-1795), Enoch (1721-1762), Noah (1724-1805), and Gershom (1728-1810).
- John Hunt was the son of Samuel Hunt (1660-1716) and Mary Burrough (1662-1720) . John Hunt’s siblings were Mary (1685-1709), Anna (1686-1718), Ralph (1686-1733, married Margaret Furman 1696-1742), Elizabeth (1688- ), Thomas (1693-1747), Jasper (1698-1807), Samuel (1699-1752) and Edward (1700-1715).

- Mary Burroughs was the daughter of John Burroughs (1617-1678) and Joanna Jessup (1625-1664)

From descendants:
- “There have been a lot of discussions among some of the Hunt descendants who are genealogy nuts. We think we go back to Ralph Hunt who lived in Hunterdon Co., NJ and then it goes down to a 'Dr.' (some question if he really was) Daniel Hunt who lived in Rowan Co., NC.  I thought it had been decided that his son, Gershom, was John's father, mostly through the elimination of everyone else thought possible.   Now I see that someone has put that the Gershom is a 'Jr', I assume meaning there were 2 Gershoms, father and son,  but I haven't been very involved in those discussions and hope that someone else will come up with the proof!  A Hunt relatve, James Mark Hunt, who is descended from Lewis Wilford Hunt, brother of my Daniel and your Jonathan, has contributed DNA but as far as I know, no one with proof back to Ralph Hunt and contributed DNA to compare with ours.  We think our Hunts were English although my grandfather, Marion Dee, used to say that his family was 'Scotch' (Scots)-Irish but I'm wondering if that might be the Allen line.
“There is a lot of mis-information put online including that our John's wife, Elizabeth, was the Jane Moore who married a John Hunt in Wilson Co., TN.  Then an assumption was made that this was our ancestor but someone else, not in our line,  claimed this John Hunt and Jane Moore.  John Bethel Hunt's California obit. gives his mother as an Allen.   John Bethel is the youngest brother of Jonathan, Daniel, etc.”

- There were 3 Gershams of age simultaneously in Rowan Co, NC, so they styled themselves Gersham, Gersham SR and Gersham JR to keep their tax records and land deeds separated
