From a descendant:
- “There is a lot of mis-information put online including that our John's wife, Elizabeth, was [incorrectly] the Jane Moore who married a John Hunt in Wilson Co., Tennessee. Then an assumption was made that this was our ancestor but someone else, not in our line, claimed this John Hunt and Jane Moore [or Elizabeth Jane Moore]. John Bethel Hunt's California obit [death cert]. gives his mother as an Allen. John Bethel is the youngest brother of Jonathan, Daniel, etc. [all children of this John and Elizabeth Hunt.]”
[Another tree says he married Elizabeth Jane Moore on 3 Oct 1816, Wilson Co., Tennessee. Marriage Notes: Overton Harlow bondsman]
- “The entire family of our common ancestors, John and Elizabeth Allen Hunt, migrated to Missouri. After Elizabeth [Allen Hunt] died in 1865 John went to Crittenden Co., KY to visit relatives and ended up marrying a Civil War widow, Sarah Paris Swansey/Swancey, stayed there and had 4 more children. An interesting note is what a descendant of John's nephew who still lives in Crittenden Co. says and that is that the local story was that John and Sarah's neighbor was probably the actual father of the last child who was named for the neighbor. ”
- A tree on ancestry says John Hunt married Elizabeth Allen on 3 Oct 1816 in Wilson Tennessee, yet the index for that same date gives a different spouse [Jane Moore], leaving the date and/or spouse in question:

- 1865 memorial for Elizabeth Allen Hunt
Birth: 1795 Virginia, USA
Death: Aug. 3, 1865 Lawrence County, Missouri, USA
Maiden name of Allen is from the California death certificate information of son, John Bethel Hunt, who died in 1927 and is buried in the Fowler Cemetery, Fresno Co., CA.
There has been a mix-up with some believing that the Jane Moore who married John Hunt in Wilson Co., Tennessee, Oct. 3, 1816, is the same as this Elizabeth Allen Hunt and Elizabeth is therefore being called Elizabeth Jane Moore.
1850 - The Wilson Co. John and Jane Hunt are listed in District 3, Wilson Co., Tennessee in the 1850 census, in household #401. John and Elizabeth Allen Hunt are living in Lawrence Co., Missouri in the 1850 census.
1860 - In the 1860 census John and Jane Hunt are still living in District #3, Wilson Co., Tennessee but the household # is 54. Living with them is their son, Hartwell Hunt. John and Elizabeth Allen Hunt did not have a son named Hartwell and they are still living in Lawrence Co., Missouri.
1870 - In the 1870 census John and Jane Hunt are still living in Wilson Co., Tennessee whereas Elizabeth Allen Hunt is no longer living and is buried in the Round Grove Cemetery. Her husband, John Hunt, b. 1798, is now living in Crittenden Co., Kentucky and has remarried.

From other researchers
- may have been born in Virginia or Kentucky
- Elizabeth’s granddaughter Atlanta Hunt Allen (daughter of her son Lewis Wilford Hunt and his wife Evaline Allen Hunt), married Evaline’s nephew Elliot Allen [from Evaline’s findagrave memorial]
- Elizabeth Hunt, wife of John Hunt: I am a g-g-granddaughter of Elizabeth Hunt. The California death certificate of Elizabeth's youngest son, John Bethel Hunt, has that Elizabeth's maiden name was ALLEN. The Moore name got stuck to Elizabeth only on the assumption of another descendant and now it has been attached to many family trees. Lynda West Hahn [comment on ancestry.com attached to a photo of her gravestone]
- I don't have any additional information [about parents of Elizabeth Allen] and have looked. Even before ... [her son] John Bethel [Hunt]'s death certificate information that had his mother's name as Allen, my gut feeling was already that she might have been an Allen as there seemed to be a very close relationship to at least Daniel and family, with Evaline Allen Hunt, wife of Lewis Wilford. I suspected that she was an aunt of Evaline's whose parents were Moses and Juliet Robinson Allen, but though Moses evidently had a sister named Elizabeth, she is listed by some researchers as married to someone else.*** Although I know that a lot of wrong information is being posted out there so I haven't totally closed off my idea. Something interesting I read a while back was that in the early years of our country marriages were very often between two people who lived less than 5 miles apart as transportation was too poor for much of any further distance.
I have tried to find out where the name [of her son] Lewis Wilford [Hunt] came from as I thought that would probably make for some additional family connection knowledge. In looking at finding connections I've tried to use what is said to be a German custom of giving given names to children and from that thought that Elizabeth Allen Hunt's father might have been Daniel Allen. Although usually the custom was that the first son was named after the paternal grandfather, the first daughter after the maternal grandmother, the second son after the maternal grandfather and the second daughter after the paternal grandmother. In the case of Lewis Wilford and Evaline's first daughter, she was named Juliet Elizabeth which was a good clue in locating Evaline's parents as I knew that Elizabeth surely had come from her paternal grandmother.
*** Other trees list this other Elizabeth (daughter of Moses Allen and Martha Atwood) was born 10 years earlier in 1785, and married to James Wood ...
The marriage bond of James WOOD and Elizabeth ALLEN is recorded in Shenandoah County, Virginia Marriage Book: 1772 - 1850. The bond is dated 10 September 1810 and shows that Elizabeth ALLEN was the daughter of Moses ALLEN who acted as bondsman.
