RESEARCH NOTES
- From the 1953 book: A KERFOOT HISTORY: Canadian Branch by J.M. Morris (1856-1936):
“The Kerfoot Family in Canada was founded by George Kerfoot who came from Coolcullen, County Kilkenny, Ireland, an aged widower with children, grandchildren and two great grandchildren, in 1819....Kerfoot party apparently included George, son William (with wife Elizabeth), grandson George (with wife Deborah and two small children), and three other grandchildren. ...(and others).”

- From another researcher;
2. GEORGE2 KERFOOT (THOMAS1) was born Abt. 1742 in Ireland, and died 1819 in Nepean's Point, Ontario, Canada. He married ELEANOR ?.
Notes for GEORGE KERFOOT:
In 1819 he came from Coolcullen [NE of Kilkenny], County Kilkenny, Ireland, an aged widower. He immigrated with children, grandchildren and two great-grand children. They remained at Nepeans Point for a year during which George Kerfoot died. The following year William Kerfoot and his three sons took up land in nearby Beckwith Township, Lanark County, Ontario, Canada.
We are indebted to Jean S. McGIll for the following:
"George Kerfoot, an aged widower, came with his children, grandchildren, and two great grandchildren in 1819, landing at Nepean's Point - a family party of eleven. While camped there, the great grandfather [George Kerfoot] died. His son William, a stonemason, proceeded with his three sons George, Thomas and Samuel to Beckwith Township. William Sr. located on the 4th concession on lot 25 which he shared with his son Samuel, near the present day village of Prospect. In 1824 he donated a corner of his farm and helped build thereon the Prosect Methodist Church, a small log building, across the road from the present stone United Church. In this Methodist Cemetery are buried many Irish pioneers who settled on the third and fourth concessions of Beckwith and Goulburn. The earlist inscribed date is "Hugh Conn, January 1830, age 39" who settled on Lot 24 of the 4th Concession and recieved his patent in 1828.
Burial: Prospect Methodist Cemetery, Prospect, Ontario, Canada
