RESEARCH NOTES
- According to a private researcher: Hugh ADAMS was baptized 19 Sep 1728 in Morwenstow, Cornwall. He died 1 13 Aug 1797 in Morwenstow, Cornwall. Hugh married Elizabeth WALKEY on 10 Dec 1756 in Kilkhampton, Corn, Eng.
Elizabeth WALKEY was born about 1710. She died 1 13 May 1798 in Morwenstow, Cornwall. Elizabeth married Hugh ADAMS on 10 Dec 1756 in Kilkhampton, Corn, Eng. This seems to match the tombstone information.
- According to the Cornwall OPC site, there were 2 men named Hugh Adams who married in Kilkhampton within 5 years of one another:
Hugh Adams (the younger) married Elizabeth Walkey, married 10 Dec 1756 in Kilkhampton
Hugh Adams (sojourner) married Hannah Davis of Hartland, Kilkhampton, married 21 Jul 1761 in Kilkhmampton
One interpretation is that the 2 men in question were 1st cousins, 6 years apart in age:
Hugh Adams (older of the 2), son of Henry Adams and Grace Gooding, baptised 19 Sep 1728 in Morwenstow [so it makes sense that he married Hannah Davis as he was the sojourner and not the younger)
a younger Hugh Adams, son of Hugh Adams and Esther Pederick, baptised 28 Mar 1734 in Kilkhampton (so it makes sense tht he married Elizabeth Walkey as he was the younger and came from Kilkhampton)
BUT, this interpretation doesn’t match the tombstone information, as Hugh Adams (1728-1797) married Elizabeth. So why is he referenced as“the younger”? Perhaps there was another older Hugh Adams (from Morwenstow as well?) to make this statement true - not yet identified.
There are quite a few Hugh Adams in Morwenstow and Kilkhampton alone (11 buried between 1628 and 1851!), so care must be taken when locating spouses etc.
On 10 Dec 1756 when Hugh was 28, he married Elizabeth WALKEY in Kilkhampton, Cornwall, England. Born ca 1710. Elizabeth died in Morwenstow, Cornwall, England, on 13 May 1798; she was 88. Buried on 16 May 1798 in Morwenstow, Cornwall, England.

RESEARCH NOTES
- Walkey doesn’t seem to be too common a name? but is phonetically lumped together with Wills, Welch, Walch, Wallis, Wallish, Wilcock, Wolcocke(s), Willes etc.
- possible baptisms for Elizabeth Walkey:
05 Oct 1708 in St. Germans, Elizabeth Walkey child of William and Margaret
- no baptisms of children for Hugh and Elizabeth Adams until 1823 on Cornwall OPC site. I think there is a gap in the date ranges.
- one source has Elizabeth married to Hugh Adams, son of Henry Adams and Grace Gooding, but according to notes on the Cornwall OPC site, I believe she married the Hugh Adams, son of Hugh Adams and Esther Pederick.
