Richard was the base born child of Joseph Hockridge and Mary Mugford. He was baptised 15 July 1821 in Welcombe, Devon. 1841 he was living with his father's brother Thomas Hockridge at Eastcott, Clovelly. At the time of his marriage he was living at Burnstone and his father Joseph was a farmer. On the marriage certificate Richard gave his address as Burnstone and his fathers name as Joseph Hockridge, Farmer. Richard did not use his fathers name but retained the name Mugford.After his marriage he was living in Clovelly before moving to Boscastle, Minster, Cornwall where he was a farm labourer. 1851 Living at Burnstone, Clovelly with wife Mary and their children Mary, Grace and John. 1861 Living at Boscastle Lower with wife Mary and children Grace, John, Ann, Thomas and Diannah. 1871 Living at Boscastle with wife Mary and children Thomas. Diannah and Emily. 1881 Living at Boscastle with wife mary and daughter Emily. 1891 Living at High Street Boscastle with wife Mary and daughter Emily. Richard is an agriculteral labourer. His son Thomas who is a gardener seems to be living next door with wife Annie. 1901 Richard is living with his wife Mary at Fore Street, Boscastle. He is now a retired agricultural labourer. Richard and his wife Mary are both buried at Boscastle.Richard died 1901 aged 78 and Mary died 1902 aged 78
