Anne COMPTON (Elizabeth6, John5, John4, Tristram3, John “the Elder”2, Edward1).
Born in 1748. Anne died in 1841; she was 93.
From other researchers:
- [Anne’s parents] went to live in Fittleton on Avon and their two children John and Ann were born in 1745 and 1749 respectively.
- Ann married James Morris and they produces 7 children between 1770 and 1787. Ann herself owned land in Newton Stacey, Nether Wallop and Chilbolton, although only the Newton Stacey property is mentioned in her mother, Elizabeth’s will. The rest may have been inherited from her husband. One of her descendants described how “We have visited some of the dwellings she owned. We had taken a flask of coffee with us, and it was an amazing feeling to sit beside the river Test on a beautiful sunny day, in the water meadow she owned all those years ago.” Ann died in 1841 at the age of 92. Her gravestone is clearly legible.
- Ann (Compton) Morris left a will (8 pages). “...she left a home to her daughter Frances Compton Morris who died in 1858 - then on down the female line as tenants in common - quite unusual in that time. Ann Compton had a copyhold property at Chilbolton, Hampshire, it looks like Easton on the Will but I can’t locate it.”
Is this the right couple? The timing is right, but quite a distance to the west
