Eighth Generation (Continued)
Family of Anne COMPTON (93) & James MORRIS
120. James MORRIS (Anne COMPTON7, Elizabeth6, John5, John4, Tristram3, John “the Elder”2, Edward1). Born on 26 Aug 1770 in Barton Stacey, All Saints, Hampshire, England. James died in 1831; he was 60.

From other researchers:
- oldest son [w]as James Morris. James born 26 August 1770 died 1831.
- Information re James Morris from Barton Stacey - ... James born 1770 married Dinah Brown   6 February 1794. their children had all the Compton names including a daughter Fanny - just like Frances Compton Morris was called when she married.  But Dinah did not have any children after 1813 and she died in  1831-32 - she left a Will with Ann Morris being the recipient - odd I think. To compound it all James seems to marry Martha Smith 27.2.1827 - their children being Isaac Hurst Morris and Caroline Smith Morris - not Compton names.

From other researchers:
- William born 24 July 1775 died 1835.

- About his mother’s will (she died 1821): “Ann Compton had a copyhold property at Chilbolton, Hampshire, it looks like Easton on the Will but I can’t locate it. ... I have been given pictures of the homes they lived in in Longparish, so if anyone needs that information it is available. The Longparish property and the ‘copyhold’ farm both carried mortgages amounting to 1000 pounds in 1823.  That  was as a result of two younger sons of Ann and James Morris swapping farms. Charles the younger  of the two sons owed his brother William 1000pounds - he didn’t pay up so Ann Compton Morris Will opens with her request to the trustees within two years after her death, to obtain the money and interest from Charles Morris - he then seems to live at Marchmont. The mortgages were removed in 1842 so have to assume he paid up, or else the copyhold property was sold.”

- William Morris married Hannah Landom (but this it should be Sandom) 12 November 1795 England marriage Number 105373-7 film number 1596076 (at Chilbolton), died 4 February 1835 Chilbolton England Deaths and Burials There are many references on the Hampshire Website to both him and Ann Morris exchanging properties ,of she giving to him. Charles began his farming life at Faccombe, their daughter Ann Compton Morris born 9 March 1812, charity Bunce Morris born at Wherwell 9 May 1819 Charles Bunce Morris 23 Dec 1815, Wherwell and Arabella Morris 27 May 1821 Wherwell.

RESEARCH NOTES
Other researchers say he died in 1783, age 8. Either this is wrong, or there was a later sibling also names William, because a William was mentioned in 1821 in his mother’s will.
On 12 Nov 1795 when William was 20, he married Hannah LANDOM in Chilbolton, Hampshire, England.

Jacob MORRIS (1797-1827)
123. Elizabeth Compton MORRIS (Anne COMPTON7, Elizabeth6, John5, John4, Tristram3, John “the Elder”2, Edward1). Born on 25 Dec 1777. Elizabeth Compton died in 1783; she was 5.

124. Mary Compton MORRIS (Anne COMPTON7, Elizabeth6, John5, John4, Tristram3, John “the Elder”2, Edward1). Born on 13 May 1781. Mary Compton died in 1782; she was <1.

125. Frances Compton MORRIS (Anne COMPTON7, Elizabeth6, John5, John4, Tristram3, John “the Elder”2, Edward1) . Born on 19 Jul 1784. Frances Compton died in 1858; she was 73.

From other researchers:
- Frances Compton Morris born 19 July 1784 died 1858
- Frances Compton Morris lived in Longparish for a great deal of her life but with her oldest daughter ran (and owned) Kitnocks Farm in Curdbrige .
- When her daughter Mary Ann (Sims) Hayes lost her husband the family moved back to the house in Longparish and let the farm. The house in Middleton, Longparish does not have a street name hence the problem finding it on the census.
- Frances Compton Morris Sims and her second daughter Frances Morris Sims looked after my Great Grandmother - an orphan, and then her daughter, also an orphan - my Grandmother Elizabeth Hayes later Bunney. I have a great deal to be grateful for with these women, I also think they left Elizabeth Bunney property -  there is no property on any of the Wills of the females (except Ann Morris) so there must have been a Trust or something - I can’t find anything to prove its existence.

RESEARCH NOTES
- Longparish is a village and civil parish in Hampshire, England. It is composed of 4 hamlets that over time have expanded and joined up to become one village. Longparish is situated on the northwest bank of the River Test - wikipedia.
It is east of Andover (less than 10km). It is north of Barton Stacey by 3 or 4 km.
Parish Longparish, St Nicholas: Hampshire Archives records date back to 1654, Baptisms to 1953, marriages to 1980, burials to 1994. Most alos at Andover Libray (dustydocs)
Frances Compton married Henry SIMS.
They had the following children:

The mortgages were removed in 1842 so have to assume he paid up, or else the copyhold property was sold.”

- Charles Morris born 1787 died at Marchwood, Southampton - but haven’t recorded the year - it has to be after 1841 as he still owed Ann Moriis estate the 1450Bps plus interest. I have no idea if he ever paid up but he obviously borrowed it about 1812-15 when he changed farms with William. I have to admit until I read the Will I thought it was William who owed Charles the money - it seems some of the newspaper reporting is inaccurate!!

- Lucy Bunce [who married Jacob, son of William] had an older sister Charity who married Charles Morris - two different generations of Morris family.

From othe researchers:
- Charity Bunce was the older sister of Lucy Bunce who married Jacob Morris, son of William Morris (Charles’ brother) - 2 generations of Morris.

... Breaches Leaze was left by Henry Bunce of Earlestone, Burghclere (made will in 1780) to his son John Bunce (made will in 1796), who devised it to his son Henry Bunce and also owned Grubbed Coppice but made no devise thereof in his will. Henry Bunce junior died in 1814 leaving four sisters (Betsy North of Barton Stacey, widow; Charity Morris wife of Charles Morris of Wherwell, yeoman; Sarah Holdway wife of Robert Holdway of Crawley, maltster, and Lucy Bunce of Longparish, spinster); they (with the surviving husbands) sold the property to Robert Phillips Vincent, gentleman, in 1816. He mortgaged it to John Brown of Hannington, yeoman, in 1821, and in 1824 the trustees of his will sold the equity of redemption to John Brown ...
