From other researchers:
- From images of an inlaid cabinet and handwritten notes about its provenance:
“This Cabinet was given by Mr Mrs Stephen Tunks? of Ringwood to their nephew Charles Stephen Westcott a? Surgeon of Ringwood on his marriage about 1830. [1825]
Mrs Tunks, [and] his mother the wife of William Westcott also Surgeon of Ringwood were daughters of Jennings Esquire of Barnfield? near Ringwood, Mrs Jennings their [end of image 1]
mother was the daughter of Thos. Compton Esqr, was born at Foschiten? [could this be Foxcot in?] Hants in 1763. The Comptons were of the first Branch of the Comptons of Wiltshire Landowners there before the Conquest.
The Cabinet was left to Sophia daughter of Charles Wesscott wife of James Appleford of Ringwood, then to his daughter Annie wife of E P S Jones. [end of image 2]”

- The cabinet is (unusually) dated 1654 on an inlay. ... We know there are similar cabinets (not dated like ours!) at Glamis and Lindisfarne castles. [Initials “PWD” also inlaid]

We have been on Antiques Roadshow with it a couple of years ago - here's a link to a YouTube clip:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h-sX9jsrugQ

[From video: This cabinet is authentic back to the mid 1600s. One of the earliest examples of the use of veneer using expensive ebony (hand cut thicker-than-modern-usage). Inlaid are ivory tulips and mother of pearl shapes that would have reflected the candle light nicely. The deep top draw was for large plumed hats. The botton doors open to reveal shallow drawers for valuable linens, tapestries etc. Even in current condition, worth £3000-£4000 as of 2012]

On 1 Dec 1783 when Ann was 24, she married Stephen TUNKS / TUCKS in Penton Mewsey, Andover, Hampshire, England. Born ca 1755.

From other researchersz;
- Stephen Tunks was a Ringwood brewer who was a member of the Ringwood Bank directorate and he married Ann Jennings, the daughter of Mary Compton (cousin to Harry Compton, husband of Charlotte Lisle Newman). Charlotte’s mother Joanna (Whitaker) Newman left Stephen her pew place in church at two guineas a year. George Jennings was a witness at the wedding of Harry and Charlotte. The Jenningses lived in Penton Mewsey, a short ride from the Lains.

- From a posting on curiousfox: Your Stephen Tunks was a banker and brewer, he appears in the Hampshire newspapers as a chairman of committees and so on He died in 1821 and appears to have left his financial affairs in disarray- I have not looked extensively at this but in one notice he appears to have come from Blythwood Southwold. I can't find a baptism in Suffolk after a very brief look but there is a baptism in Westminster for this name, son of Stephen and Jane born 18/04/1746 and baptised 08/05/1846.
This couple had a previous child of this name bapt in 1740. The original images are on Findmypast.
Stephen senior maried Jane Thacker in April 1731, at St James Picadilly- both were of the parish so
can't see where Southwold comes in-the family may have come from there originally. There seems to be plenty of information available. Yrs etc Pat Thompson

From other researchers:
- It looks as though Martha and William [Jennings] had two "mass christening" for their children - 20/07/1797 and 06/11/1811

On 17 Apr 1788 when Martha (Patty) was 22, she married William WESTCOTT in Christchurch Priory, Hampshire, England. Born on 16 Nov 1763 in Martock, Somerset, England. William died in Ringwood Reg Dist, Hampshire, England, on 22 Dec 1840; he was 77. Occupation: Surgeon of Ringwood Hants.

From other researchers:
- From image of handwritten note, showing 4 lines only at top of a page (this is on a scrap of paper - very odd feel - almost stretchy):
William Westcott was born at Martock in the county of Somerset November 16th 1763
Martha Jennings wife of the above W Westcott was born at Foxcott in the County of Hants, Dec’r 17th 1765?
In a different handwriting:
And Died February 5th 1838
William Westcott died Dec’r 22nd 1840. [or 1841, as part of the 0 seems to be crossed out?].

- Another tree on ancestry says William (born 1765) died in 1807 (unsourced)
