There was a Charlotte Elicia / Elvira Lisle baptised the same day as her brother Arthur on 9 Aug 1782, and a Charlotte Alicia Lisle Compton bapt 6 Apr 1786 in Nether Wallop. Entry errors have likely occurred somewhere along the line.
194. Major Thomas Compton COMPTON (Harry Childeroy8, Thomas7, Ann6, John5, John4, Tristram3, John “the Elder”2, Edward1) . Born abt 1789 in Amport, Hampshire, England. Christened in 1795. Thomas Compton died in St Eleanors, Prince Co., PEI, Canada, on 5 Aug 1850; he was 61. Buried abt 1850 in Miscouche, PEI, Canada. Occupation: Politician, MLA for Prince County 1831 -.

From family and other researchers:
- Thomas emigrated [from England] with his father to PEI in 1803 Today many of his descendants still live in Canada and even in the USA. Spent most of his adult life in St. Eleanor's, PEI; [perhaps helped his father] built home "Pavilion".
- 1803 Thomas’s step-mother “Mary Anne did not want to go to Canada, neither did she send her child [Lyne] with its father. Harry set off with his son Thomas and daughter Charlotte, a servant girl and housekeeper Mrs. Eleanor Sankey [Sangster? Sanxay?], from Portsmouth on the “Teresa”. They left on 23.8.1803 and arrived on 23.9.1803, a long journey by sailing ship through rough seas, icebergs and whales.”

- 1810 from http://peiheritagebuildings.blogspot.ca/2012/02/do...wife-great-fire.html
Col. Compton's son Thomas (age 22) married Hannah Jeffery (age 20) on Nov. 10, 1810, five days after she landed on Prince Edward Island from the Isle of Wight, England.  Later in life Thomas became a Major and MLA in Prince Edward Island's Legislature and is also credited with giving Summerside it's name while visiting a friend at Green's Shore. [others attribute the naming to his father Harry.]
- Others say Hannah married Thomas 8 days after her arrival - marriage date givien as Nov 13, 1810 - so presumably they had already met somehow.

- 1811 - was only surviving son of Col. Harry Compton.
- 1812 - On June 16, 1812 he had been a juror at the Gallant Inquest (first murder recorded on the Island - a husband went mad and killed his wife).
- Was a Major in British Army.
- 1829 - PEI Record Aug 13, 1829 p. 3: On October 1, 1829 His Excellency the Lt. Governor appointed Thomas Compton Compton a magistrate under the Small Debt Act.
- 1831 - he was elected M.L.A. Also was a tax accessor and collector.

- 1835, from http://www.gov.pe.ca/archives/petitions/detail.php?id=805 [1 page document and cover - see 2 images]
Thomas Compton, Parish of Richmond, petitioned Gov Aretas William Young (along with Thomas Richard) on 25 March 1835 [petition no. 805, RG5, Series4, file 47]:
Summary:  The petitioners are British Subjects and wish to obtain, by Purchase, a tract of Land containing fifty acres situated on a Brook on the unlocated Land in the rear of the fifteen Point Settlement on Township Number Fifteen, for the purpose of Building a Grist Mill for the convenience of the inhabitants. The petitioners wish to purchase the land, which is in a wilderness state, for the Price of twenty shillings per acre.

- 1841, published in the Charlottetown Guardian on Saturday Dec 2, 1905:
“Over Sixty Years Ago
The Colonial Herald of October 5th, 1841 contains the announcement of the Provincial Treasurer, J. Spencer Smith of the appointment of the following persons to be receivers of assessments on all lands in the Province:- Joseph Pope, Bedeque; Thomas C. Compton, St Eleanors; Jas. Yeo, Port Hill; Allan Forsythe, Cascumpeque; Thomas McNutt, Princetwon Royalty; Jas. Pidgeon, New London; Thomas Fairbairn, Sable; Solomon Desbrisay, Charlottetown; Allan McDougall, Belfast; John Jardine, St. Peters; Alexander Macdonald, St. Margaret’s; Wm. S. MacGowam, Souris; Hugh Macdonald, Three Rivers; James Richards, Murray Harbor.”

- From another researcher: Converted to Catholicism, probably about 1832 as Hubert (born 1831) was baptised Anglican [actually baptised RC], and their next child Eliza (b 1833) was baptised RC [yes]. [NOTE - this conclusion may not be accurate, as earlier children were also baptised RC - e.g. son Edmund Ernestin 1821]

- 1850 - Buried in Miscouche PEI Canada. 1788-1850. Copy of Will on file Thomas and wife buried at St. John the Baptist Church [RC], Miscouche, graves unmarked, wooden crosses rotted. Not listed in the PEIGS Cemetery Listing.

- “In Miscouche cemetery lie the remains of Major Compton, his wife, and one of their daughters. Major Compton was the son of Colonel Harry Compton strange to say no monument has been erected to the memory of this worthy Catholic couple whose descendants unfortunately for themselves have drifted away from the true faith.” - pg 111 from the book “The Burke Chronicles, The story of the Beginnings of the Romona Catholic Church on PEI...”

- 1850 - Thomas Compton Compton’s will was filed Aug 1850 - copies of 6 page typewritten document including his will and codicil - obtained from PEI Archives and transcribed in 2014 [complicated document, lots of names mentioned]

RESEARCH NOTES
- previously had 10 children listed (sources vary from 9 to 12; names vary as well). 12 documented by a PEI researcher - at least 1 died as a child.
- NOT listed in this partial list of burials at St Jean-Baptiste de Belle Alliance, Miscouce PEI (transcribed from gravestones existing in 1998) -
