On 19 Aug 1891 when Maria Agnes* was 27, she married Cephas M. GRIGG, son of James GRIGG (1825-1912) & Elizabeth DOWNING (1822-1873). Born on 30 Nov 1857 in West Devon, PEI, Canada. Cephas M. died on 14 Oct 1942; he was 84. Buried in West Devon, PEI, Canada. Occupation: Farmer. Religion: Methodist And UC.

- Notes from Laing MacDowell:
> A devoted churchman of whom, upon his demise, it was said in all sincerity “One of God’s gentlemen has gone home”.
> For 8 years prior to demise he was confined to a wheelchair
> Arthur& Melissa MacDowell and Laing visited them several times in the 1920s. when Al & Ruby lived nearby.
> With regard to Uncle Ceph. I visited his home and his sons many times. In fact I baby sat and served him food while he was on his death bed the week before he died. Do not remember going to his funeral but did visit his tombstone in West Devon later.
> BURIAL written by Laing MacDowell: Cephas is buried on the southeast corner of the West Devon United Church grave yard. His grave was surrounded by a big old lilac bush.
Often, I stood there and paid tribute to him. I have once seen a
picture of him; a very stern, strong looking, and I believe a
stubborn old Cornish westcountry man. You could tell he was a man of will; that was the blood of men who carved an empire for the monarch of Britain. He had the steel and courage in him to support the Westley's as they conducted their revivals in Cornwall and West Devon. In fact, it was those fearless men of North Cornwall and West Devon who eventually split with the more formal Methodist movement and formed the Bible Christian movement. Indeed, the present United Church in West Devon, PEI was a Bible Christian church. It was built on land donated by James Grigg, and it was part of his original property. The denomination, the Christian and Missionary Alliance was a direct product of the Cornish Bible Christian movement. I suspect that our J.S. Allen was also the product of the same Bible Christian movement.
