- In 1829 arms and crest were granted to Thomas Hugh Boorman of East Peckham, Kent, esquire, to be borne by all male-line descendants of the grantee’s deceased father William Boorman of Lamberhurst, Sussex, gentleman.  Thomas had married Margaret, eldest daughter and coheir of Thomas Martyr of East Peckham, esquire, deceased, and arms for Martyr were granted at the same time as the Boorman arms and crest: Per pale Gules and Azure three fusils in fess Argent each charged with a rose Gules barbed and seeded proper
The arms granted to Thomas Hugh Boorman and John Hicks Boorman were Argent on a bend engrailed Gules between two hop-vines with poles proper growing out of mounts Vert three stag's heads caboshed Or; and crest, Upon a wreath of the colours [Argent and Gules] A bee volant between two oak branches fructed proper ['proper' in heraldry indicating that an object is depicted in its natural real-life colours]. The motto shown was 'Spes mea in Deo' ('My hope is in God') [College of Arms ms Grants 37, 416].”

RESEARCH NOTES
- baptised in Brenchley, but son Thomas’s grant of arms (1829) says his deceased father William was of Lamberhurst, which is about 5 miles south of Brenchley, both being roughly east of Royal Tunbridge Wells.

- have yet to find a marriage or burial record for him.
If 1793 is correct, there was a William Boorman buried 17 Feb 1793 in Canterbury Kent, IGI batch I00356-3, also B05862-6 (St Paul’s).

- searching FMP for marriages (1745-1765), including variants (can’t view spouses names):
William Boorman: In Kent there were 7 marriages for William Boorman: 1749 Cranbrook, 1764 Cranbrook, 1749 Woodchurch, 1758 Staplehurst, 1752 Tenterden, 1746 Staplehurst, 1755 Goudhurst. 12 other records without a first name, 7 of these in the Dioceses of the Province of Canterbury. No marriages in Sussex..

- Another researcher has this William (father of John Hicks Boorman), born 6 Jan 1732 Lamberhurst, married to Elizabeth Foster 1737 ??? Birth not found in IGI batch C131531. [A William Boreman married a Susannah Chantler in Lamberhurst 4 Jun 1759]

- Another site lists this William born 6 Jan 1732/33 Lamberhurst and married to Elizabeth Foster (born 19 Feb 1736/37 Brenchley Kent), daughter of Lawrence Foster (1793). 5 children listed, all born East Grinstead Sussex: John (5 Jan 1761), William (14 Jul 1763), John Hicks (13 May 1765), Thomas Hugh (14 Oct 1768) and Martha Foster (19 Apr 1771).
William married Elizabeth LYNN. Born in 1731. Christened on 12 Apr 1731 in East Grinstead, Sussex, England. Elizabeth died in 1824; she was 93.
