From family sources:
- my grandfather Thomas Hugh came from England as a young civil engineer, worked for the Asphalt Association, wrote a book which I unfortunately lost, Asphalt. He married a Sayre, from an old NJ family descended from Priscilla and John Alden of the Mayflower.
On 20 Sep 1883 when Thomas Hugh was 32, he married Charlotte SAYER / SAYRE in Christ’s Church, New York, USA. Born in Apr 1845 in Kentucky, USA. Charlotte died in Manhattan, New York, New York, USA, on 4 Aug 1926; she was 81. Buried in 1926 in Hanover Cemetery, East Hanover, Morris, New Jersey, USA.

- Daughter of Hon. Emilius Kitchell Sayer and Elizabeth Stanford Piersou? Descended from John Alden, one of the signers of the “Mayflower” compact, whose courtship with Priscilla Molines has been immortalized by Longfellow, himself a descendant.
- Last name also spelled Sayre in children’s birth registrations.
