- She  graduated from the New York Training School for Nurses which was attached to Bellevue Hospital, the most prestigious hospital in the US at that time.

- Sophie is reference in the book “Sister Heroines-The Roseate Glow of Wartime Nursing 1914-1918.”, Calgary, Bunker to Bunker Publishing 2002, by Marjorie Barron Norris, pages 166, 167 [Sophie’s story], and page 180 [Roll of Honour - Other Calgary Nursing Sisters] where she is listed as “CAMC Lieut. N/S Sophie Louise Carr”. She is said to have graduated from the prestigious New York City Hospital in 1908 and was living with her mother in Calgary when she enlisted in the CEF on Jan 10, 1916. She had a series of illnesses while overseas, including appendicitis requiring surgery. She was assigned to other units (including No. 9 Stationary Hospital Bramshott, the Canadian Red Cross Special Hospital, Buxton, and overseas to No 2 CGH, and to England) before returning to Calgary at the end of May 1919. She joined the staff of MD13 and nursed at Ogden Military Convalescent Hospital at the Col. Belcher Military Hospital until being struck off strength of the CEF on 23 Mar 1920.
