- Uncle Jack and my Aunt Mary had 3 sons. Tragically, they had a son who drowned as well. His name was Jackie. They had 2 other sons who are still living [2009]: Billy and George.
- ... Mary Compton Robbins ... had three sons Jackie,George,and Billy. Her oldest Jackie was in an accident when he was 17 along with my father George. They both had been in a canoe with a friend watching a speed boat race when it was capsized. My father and his friend made it to shore but his brother was no where to be found. My father returned home hoping to find his brother there.What he saw was news reporters telling Mary that both her boys drowned. As she saw the face of George walking in, she thought her other son would soon follow. Unfortunately he never did and his body was pulled from the water the next day. My grandmother and I we're very close and she lived with me for many years. I asked her to tell me everything she could remember about her past, her fathers, etc. She was very detailed even to the very end. Although in the last few years she could remember her childhood,her memory of me faded.
- I believe [Mary’s uncle Charled Edward “Ed” Andrew] was responsible for the permanent injury to my Aunt Mary's arm. Supposedly, he either pushed or threw my Aunt Mary down a flight of cellar stairs over some kind of argument, severely injuring her left arm. She was told not to get medical attention because the doctor at the hospital would naturally inquire how the injury occurred. This could result in criminal charges being filed against her uncle because the doctor would inform the police. Unfortunately, the injury never healed and I believe TB set in to the arm...the elbow area. My aunt spent at least 2 years in a TB Sanitorium...might well have been longer. The arm was quite withered and she wore a heavy cast the rest of her life to give the arm support. She had very limited use of the arm. It was quite amazing she lived to be 95. She did a lot of work on her father's farm when she was young and was able to pay for the trip to Boston to live with her uncle by selling the family bull which she was reluctant and sad to do because the bull was very friendly to her....but not to strangers. - The 1930 census very likely didn't include my "Aunt Mary" (Victoria Marie...I think was her correct name.) because she was probably in a sanitorium in Dorchester, MA (part of Boston) recovering from TB which developed in her arm from being thrown down cellar stairs. She may have spent a few years there. She later married Jack Robbins, who was a lodger at Uncle Ed's rooming house on Auburn St., Cambridge and met him there. Records at city hall in Cambridge show that she was living in Dorchester when she married Uncle Jack. She wore a very heavy arm cast for the rest of her life and lived to be age 93 or so.
- Mary lived with her granddaughter Heather for many years. She was very detailed even to the very end, although in the last few years she coiuld remember her chilhood, but her memory of Heather faded.
- My grandmother (Nana) Mary Robbins died on December 26th, 2005 at 6pm, in Massachusetts.It was a combination I believe of heart problems and she was sick from pneumonia.She had several strokes in the past but she was always a trooper. She was very religious, and wanted to go to heaven to see her son and husband again. She was always up beat and joked with me.A very loving woman but stricked. I remember when our father took us to P.E.I. every summer when we were kids. My Nana had a cabin up there. No electric, no running water, just the well and the out house. My Uncle Billy built it with his father when he was only 12.She would come in and bounce quarters off the beds to see if they had been made right.

Aft 1930 when Marie Victoria “Mary” was 20, she married John Frederick “Jack” ROBBINS. Born in Aug 1901 in Newfoundland, Canada. John Frederick “Jack” died in Belmont, Massachusetts, USA, on 24 Sep 1976; he was 75. Buried in Belmont, Massachusetts, USA.

- I think you have the right John Robbins. He was born in NFLD, Canada. He worked for the railroad in the Boston area. I think it was called the B&M Railroad...short for Boston and Maine Railroad. I'm not sure what kind of work he did there. I don't think he was an inspector, although there are all kinds of inspectors. He might have been involved in basic maintenance, cleaning the railroad cars out, something along those lines. His education I believe was rather limited.
- My Grandfather and Nana [Jack and Mary Robbins] both lived in Belmont for as long as [I] could recall. My father [George] and Uncle [Billy] went to school there. My grandfather died of a heart attack. My Nana rrecounted the day several times to me. she said that day he hadn't been feeling well and told her that he knew he was going to die. He told her to come hold his hand. She stayed by his side and it was only a few minutes later that he did pass, at their Belmont apartment.

It does however give me how many days and months his death occurred. So I did my math and his birth month and day might have been August 4th, 1901.( If everything is correct) My Grandfather's name was John Fredrick Robbins, not Jack. For some reason people sometimes would call him Jack.As I was saying before the information I have even though it's death certificates/citizenship papers/license etc. has his middle name different each time and dates mixed up.
- I believe my grandfather passed away at his Belmont Massachusetts apartment. He died of a heart attack.He and my grandmother are buried in Belmont. I'll dig through more of the paper work.My grandfather's family came from Europe and I have records all the way back to the 14th century.

Curiously, my surname is a very common Indian and Pakistani surname as well. In fact, there is a Orthodontist around the corner from where I live with that name. I've never met him but have met his girlfriend. I have joked to her that Dr. Mohammed Butt is my cousin. She gets a good laugh out of that. SPEARING, Louise Katherine (nee Compton) In the early hours of June 10, 2013, Mom passed away peacefully in her sleep. Born in St. Eleanor's, P.E.I., the youngest of 7 children, and raised on the family farm near Summerside, P.E.I. Mom left home in the mid - 1940's, moving to Sidney, B.C. with sister Lillian and their mother, Elizabeth. She obtained a job in Sidney and there she met her future husband, Albert (Bert) Spearing. They married in 1949, raised 3 children, and were together for almost 44 years until Bert's passing in 1993. After Dad's passing, Mom lived on in the family house for another 15 years, tending her garden and living a quiet, private life. In her heyday, Mom was a nurse at Grant Manor and Gorge Road Hospital. She truly loved her role as nurse and caregiver to those in need. Mom was kind and generous in nature, quiet and humble. Predeceased by her beloved husband Bert, parents Fred and Elizabeth Compton, 5 sisters and 1 brother; Louise is survived by her son Derek (Judy), daughters Shannon Spearing and Heather Cane (Stephen Brown), and many dear nieces and nephews. Louise was a good mother who loved her family unconditionally and we will miss her gentle presence in our lives. Our family is grateful to the wonderful staff at Mt. Edwards' Court who provided Louise with compassionate care and support and who gave Mom lots of kisses and hugs to make her feel safe and loved. Thanks especially to the exceptional nurses on the 2nd floor: Sabina, Sarah, Carol, Lynn, (and many others), Health Care Aides: Brenda, Offelia, Jocelyn, Dawn, Cody, (and again, many others), who were so kind and gentle with Mom. A thank you, also, to Daylene in the Business Office, to Bill for his gift of music, to Dietary staff who kept Mom well fed and healthy to the end of her days. Thank you, also, to Louise's longtime family physician, Dr. L. Patry, and more recently, Dr. B. Winsby. To honour Louise's final wishes, a simple graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 14th, 2013 at Hatley Memorial Gardens, (Garden of Gethsemane), (2050 Sooke Road), where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband, Bert, whom Mom always said, "was a good man".
