in his will is our peace”

- from a descendant on ancestry:
He was married to Catherine Cumpton and had three girls, Claire, Joyce and Freda.  His first wife died of a strep throat.  And so his second wife Lillas Mills at the age of 18, after the death of Catherine came to  look after the girls and the house while Fred worked the fields of his farm. Lillas found out she was pregnant and so Fred and Lillas were married and then went on to have five children together; Fred, Ronald, Carol, Gail and Bonnie. They raised another girl Sue who was the child of Fred and Catherine's oldest daughter Claire who was hospitilized with Tuberculosis after the birth of her daughter Sue. So all in all he raised 9 children.
Fred had a very successful potato farm in Prince Edward Island even through the tough times of the depression.  He had over forty men working for him and Lillas would cook a hot lunch for them every day. He would sell acres to family's cheap who had no money just to help them out. He was a very caring man except for when he drank, which led to the ruin of the farm. He drank away the money and people would steal his money clip when he was passed out.  Lillas left for Peterborough for a new life but when Fred had nothing left he soon followed.  Fred continued to abuse alcohol until his youngest daughter Bonnie asked if he and Lillas would move in with her and her family in Ennismore, Ontario on the promise that he wouldn't drink again. He never did. At the age of 80 he had his teeth out and then took a stroke. He died at the Peterborough Civic Hospital. Was English.

ii.

RESEARCH NOTES:
- children’s birth date and birth order are wild guesses

- I think this news article is for this Margaret Compton, although they say her father was Lowel Compton rather than Leopold (there was a Lowel Compton in the area, born 1897, but any children of his would have been too young to have married in 1930):

Charlottetown Guardian, July 10, 1930, pg 10, col 5
“Miscellaneous Shower
A social event at St. Eleanors this week was the shower for a popular bride-to-be, Miss Margaret Compton, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lowel Compton, of North St. Eleanors, which was given by her girl friends at the home of Mrs. Horace Andrew. The reception rooms were lovely with spring flowers. The presents, which were both useful and ornamental, were concealed in a daintily trimmed basket and were carried into the room by Miss Jessie Hunt and Miss Catherine Andrew, Miss Doris Inman read the verses attached as she handed the gifts to the bride-to-be. Mis Compton, who was delighted by the kindness of her friends in thus remembering her and thanked everyone present in a few gracious words. A dainty buffet lunch was served to the guests. The evening was pleasantly spent in music and games.”
