The death occurred peacefully at the South Shore Villa, Crapaud, P.E.I. on Monday, December 10th, 2012 of Muriel Helena Blanche Thompson ( nee Pickering ) , formerly of Sherbrooke, P.E.I., aged 97 years. Muriel was born on July 14th, 1915 in Sherbrooke, P.E.I. to her late parents, Leonard and Eva ( nee Yeo ) Pickering.
Beloved wife of the late Earl Clayton Thompson and loving mother of Ethel White ( deceased ), Bill ( Margo ) of Summerside and Earl Thane ( deceased in infancy ) and mother-in-law of John White of Dartmouth, N.S. Also lovingly remembered by her 8 grandchildren : Gerri-Lynn ( Craig ) MacKay, Shelli-Dawn White ( Sean Irvine ), Shawna-Lee ( Mike ) Rosnok, Kendra-Ann ( Shawn ) Nugent, Karla-Rae White, and Chris, Luke and Charlotte Thompson and also her great-grandchildren Jacob and Josuha MacKay and Brooke-Lynn Nugent. Survived by her sisters Ethel ( Wyman ) Yeo and Sadie Andrew, her brother-in-law Sterling ( Bertie ) Thompson and her sister-in-law Muriel Thompson.
Beside her parents, husband, daughter & son, Muriel was predeceased by her sisters Lucy ( Fred ) Paynter, Gladys( Walter ) Paynter and Doris ( Stanley ) Wilson and the following brothers and sisters-in-law : Ray and Vera Thompson, Hazel Chappell, Wilfred and Ethel Thompson, Elmer Thompson, Ralph Thompson, Ben Andrew and Doris Thompson.
Resting at the East Prince Funeral Home , 245 Pope Rd., Summerside until Thursday, December 13th, where a funeral service will take place in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 a.m. . Interment to take place in People’s Cemetery, Summerside. - As a boy he took on the running of the family farm due to his father’s illness.
- Faught in WWII; enlisted in N St Eleanors at the same time as his first cousin Dean Andrew.
- Ben was a highly decorated veteran of the Second world War and a founding member of St. Eleanor's Lions Club, where he became the clubs first King Lion.
- After marrying Violet in England after the war, and bringing her home, they worked hard at whatever it took to raise their family. They built a home in St. Eleanor’s, grew a beautiful garden which they loved to share.
- Ben was a career RCAF member, spending time in Germany and Great Britain. He was a volunteer fireman, first president of St Eleanors Lion’s Club, a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, March of Dimes and United Way.
- Their days off consisted of home and garden projects and participating in community events. Their holidays consisted of visiting their children. They lived simply, generous to their kids and those in need. He appreciated his friends, his neighbours, his Island and his country.
- 1975 - Visited Harry and Nell Andrew in Duncan BC on Wednesday, Aug? 17, 1975, while on holiday visiting their daughters: Jeff & Donna Martin on Saltspring Island, Debbie married and living at Sooke; Jim married and has 2 children. Visited again in April, 1977.
- 1986 - Ben is home now and taking things easy, and is feeling goood. Debbie [Burke] is home for a visit with her youngest son Ryan.
- 2005 - as of Nov/05: one daughter [Donna] in Saltspring Island and one [Debora] in Honeymoon Bay (had been in Lake Cowichan).
- He was smart, a great story teller with a mind as clear as a bell at age 90, strong hands, a heart of gold.
- 2005: usual residence at time of death was 236 South Drive, St Eleanors, PEI.
- Survived by 4 children, 10 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and his second wife Sadie Thompson.
