Charlotte N. Hunt suffered a massive stroke at her home in the early morning hours of August 4, and died Friday, August 6, 2010 in the comforting care of the Iowa River Hospice Home staff with family by her side.
She was born in Grundy County, Feb. 26, 1922 to Charles and Gertie (Allen) Bowers. She spent her childhood years in Grundy Center, graduating from Grundy High School in 1940.
She obtained her teaching certificate right away and began teaching in county schools, later she earned her education degree at Drake University, and continued a long career in education.
In 1942 she married Elbert "Eb" Hunt. They started their life together in the Grundy area, moving on to Tama, Albion and then to Marshalltown.
Charlotte taught school in Grundy Center, Tama, State Center, Conrad, and Marshalltown school districts until she retired. During those years she and Eb had three children, Jim, Judy, and Jerry. Together they enjoyed many happy years, they had great friends, and kept family close at all times. Always on the go, moss never had the chance to grow on their door step, the young Hunt family moved several times over the course of 25 years.
They spent summers at Clear Lake and lived several years in Albion owning the Wagon Wheel Inn in the late 70's. She lost her soul mate in 1985 when Eb passed after years of health issues. Charlotte was a reader, played the organ, enjoyed feeding and watching birds of all kinds. She loved her humming birds, cardinals, and orioles. She had family in Grundy most all her life, brothers and sisters, most close by but a few far away. She enjoyed short trips to visit them, not as often as she would have liked but stayed in contact just the same.
One thing is without question, she loved and was loved by her family, most of all her grandchildren. She was the queen of hearts in our lives. Grandma could take a book and create a story, help with homework, play a mean game of cards, go to work on a crossword puzzle like nobody's business, but most of all she could sit and listen to you vent your problems and somehow help you find a way to deal with them.
She was small in stature but she was gifted with a large heart, soft hands and a wonderful spirit. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Left to mourn the loss are her three children, Jim (Mavis) Hunt of Marshalltown, Judy Mason of Marshalltown, and Jerry Hunt of Yuma, Ariz.; grandkids, Deb (John) Oetker, Jim (Candy) Hunt, Rod (Val) Hunt, Kristy Kelley, Tim Kelley, all of Marshalltown, Todd (Angie) Kelley, Troy (Brenda) Kelley of Albion, DJ (Melissa) Kelley of Eldora, Jayme (Mike) White of Las Vegas, John McCormack of Stuart, FL; 16 great grand kids, and 5 great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews and their families.
She will be reunited in heaven with husband Eb, granddaughter Laura, three brothers; Howard, Clarence and Kenny, two sisters; Lena Hunt and Laura Ward, their spouses, and her parents.
The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the loving care she received during her short stay at Iowa River Hospice Home. The facility and the staff are something Marshalltown can be very proud of. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Tuesday, at Pursel Davis Funeral Home in Marshalltown.

Charlotte N. Hunt suffered a massive stroke at her home in the early morning hours of August 4, and died Friday, August 6, 2010 in the comforting care of the Iowa River Hospice Home staff with family by her side.
She was born in Grundy County, Feb. 26, 1922 to Charles and Gertie (Allen) Bowers. She spent her childhood years in Grundy Center, graduating from Grundy High School in 1940.
She obtained her teaching certificate right away and began teaching in county schools, later she earned her education degree at Drake University, and continued a long career in education.
In 1942 she married Elbert "Eb" Hunt. They started their life together in the Grundy area, moving on to Tama, Albion and then to Marshalltown.
Charlotte taught school in Grundy Center, Tama, State Center, Conrad, and Marshalltown school districts until she retired. During those years she and Eb had three children, Jim, Judy, and Jerry. Together they enjoyed many happy years, they had great friends, and kept family close at all times. Always on the go, moss never had the chance to grow on their door step, the young Hunt family moved several times over the course of 25 years.
