- Bessie m. Angus Henson in OK they along with her parents and sister Hettie moved to Canada in 1910 It is known that she had children and some of the Hibbs have tried to contact them with no reply.

- Published in a Beaver County History Book, Volume I, pg 273 [my comments added]:
“... Bessie, Tanie and Hettie attended school at Old Soddy [Oklahoma] which was located across the road west of the Joe Getz home. ...
Alex decided to move his family to Boyle, Alberta, Canada, in 1910. Bessie and Angus Henson were married and accompanied her parents and younger sister Hettie to Canada where they all homesteaded. Their land was practically as far north as the roads permitted them to go in the wooded area. Here they cleared the timber and built their log cabins. Hettie married Elmer Jones December 18, 1913, and died in childbirth November 4, 1914, at Boyle Alberta, Canada.”

- Lost one of his hands in a sawmill accident. [Looking at a later photo, he lost his right hand.]
According to the family story as written by his daughter Mildred:
“Daddy’s early years in Canada saw much hardship, as did most pioneers, but his seemed beset with loss. Our home and everything in it was destroyed by fire which caught from the stove pipe. Then a new log barn, which had not quite been finished, and had been temporarily thatched with straw, was caught by a spark from a spring brush fire and destroyed. Next came the loss of most of his cattle. Those days it was open range but the railway was about a mile west of us and the right-of-way was not fenced. The grazing was better there that day than in the dense bush and they were on the track when the train came around the bend. Daddy got no compensation from the railroad either.
But the biggest tragedy followed shortly. Daddy was working in a sawmill near Bondiss. He got his right hand caught in machinery and badly mangled. It was 100 miles to Edmonton. The crew got a speeder, phoned Edmonton to clear the tracks and took Daddy on the speeder to Edmonton. He bled profusely but with many transfusions and a long time in the hospital he pulled through, but he lost his hand. All of these things happened in a matter of a few years – all before I could remember any of them.”

- 1932 May 2, signed an affidavit declaring the “Descenants of Matilda Buchanan and William Osburn [to fulfill the requirements of a Buchanan will 100 years before]

- 1939: first grandchild was Raymond King, then Yvonne Gillespie [followed in 1942; both now deceased]

- 1960: celebrated 50th anniversary, and travelled to BC to visit relatives. Bessie needed assistance walking and had dimentia.

From family sources:
- Angus died when he was almost 80 in a care home in Athabasca, AB, Canada (perhaps from cancer of lung? or emphasema?) don’t think he had Alzheimers?
- A response from a cousin: He 'died with his boots on' just sitting in a straight backed chair. That would not be the case if he had Alzheimers. He always went down for lunch and when he didn't they went looking for him and he was sitting with his chin resting on his chest, having died so peacefully.
- Written by his daughter Mildred: “Mother and Daddy celebrated their golden wedding [anniversary] wth their children and grandchildren in 1960. Dick and Joan hosted the celebration and in his presentation of watches to our parents Dick spoke for all of us when he said they had taught us well the meaning of honor and integrity. At that time Mother’s health had failed and the remaining years of her life were spent in a nursing home in Camrose. She passed away in the spring of 1968. Two months later Daddy, who had been in the Athabasca Senir Citizens Home for several lyears, also passed on. They are both buried in the Boyle Cemetery alongside Mother’s parents.”

- Regarding Land Grants, from http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/land/Pages/land-records.aspx
“The British North America Act of 1867 established Crown Lands as a provincial responsibility. Only land petitions for Upper and Lower Canada (Ontario and Quebec) were retained by the Government of Canada. With the acquisition of Rupert's Land in 1869, western lands came under federal control. In 1930, responsibility for Crown Lands was transferred to the provincial governments of Manitoba, Saskatchewan and Alberta. The federal government retained a copy of the original patents issued for these lands. The actual homestead applications and files relating to the grants were transferred to the provincial archives.”

Also http://www.bac-lac.gc.ca/eng/discover/land/land-gr...-western-canada.aspx
“In 1871, an order in council initiated a uniform land survey of the three Prairie Provinces as well as the railway belt of British Columbia. The land had to be accurately described and located through cadastral surveys before Letters Patent could be issued to a homesteader.
The Dominion Lands Act required that each homesteader provide proof that the land had increased in value through additions (cultivation, building construction, etc.) costing labour and/or capital. The Dominion Lands Act stipulated the improvements that had to be made to a land grant before a homesteader would receive a Letters Patent from the Crown. When a homesteader filed an application, the local Dominion Lands Office screened and validated the claim, and sent an inspector to the property to confirm that the improvements had been made. If the Board approved the application, it was forwarded to Ottawa for the "preparation and issuance of patents" by the Lands Patent Branch. Letters Patent were issued to grant or confirm title to a portion of land. They are the first title to land, and serve as proof that the land no longer belongs to the Crown. They were issued by the Registrar General's Office of the Department of Secretary of State from 1867 to 1883 and by the Lands Patent Branch of the Department of the Interior after 18 July 1883.”

... Bessie, Tanie and Hettie attended school at Old Soddy [Oklahoma] which was located across the road west of the Joe Getz home. Tanie finished her last years of school at the Elmwood School [Beaver County, Oklahoma] and made her home with the Billy Overton family on Clear Creek. Upon graduation and passing of the county examination, she was issued a teaching certificate and taught school in the Gray, Oklahoma community. It was during this term of teaching school that her parents decided to move, leaving her behind to finish out her term of teaching.
... On April 15, 1911, Froncie Sultana (Tanie) was united in marriage to Herbert R Hibbs. To this union four children were born, Paschal O Hibbs, Delia Mae Rose, Helen Eileen Slovacek and Ivan Leroy Hibbs. After marrying and raising her own family, Tanie never had the opportunity to see her parents again, but in 1945 she and her husband drove to Canada and saw her sister Bessie after thirty-five years of separation. This was indeed a joyous occasion. She visited her parent’s graves and took pictures of her parents’ first Canadian log cabin which is still standing, though unused.
Tanie and Herbert lived at “Hibbs Corner,” now known as Elmwood Oklalhoma, for several years, and then they moved to Balko until they retired in 1959 and moved to Beavr. Tanie passed away June 4, 1966.
On 15 Apr 1911 when Froncia Sultana “Tanie” was 21, she married Herbert Randell HIBBS , son of Marshall Ed* HIBBS & Mattie M KILE, in Beaver County, Oklahoma, USA. Born on 8 Feb 1893 in Elmwood, Oklahoma, USA. Herbert Randell died in Beaver, Beaver, Oklahoma, USA, on 5 May 1972; he was 79. Buried in 1972 in Beaver Pioneer Cemetery, Beaver, Beaver, Oklahoma, USA.

From family sources:
- Married in Canada
- She and 1st baby died during childbirth.
- “My Aunt Hettie married Elmer Jones and they, with Grandma and Grandpa [Hunt], came to Alberta somewhere near Cash Creek. Aunt Hettie died in childbirth and the baby was also lost.”
- Also in the Cash Creek Cemetery is a small stone that says “Jones / James A / 1928?” Don’t know if this is connected to Hettie. - http://billiongraves.com/pages/record/James-A-Jones/8287985

On 18 Dec 1913 when Henrietta A “Hettie” was 21, she married Elmer JONES in Alberta, Canada. Born ca 1890.

RESEARCH NOTES:
- probably born and married in USA?

I DON’T think this the right burial?

Gravestone: Jones // Elmer / 1880 - 1981 // Essie M / 1890 - 1982
NOTE: 18 Jones burials listed in this cemetery. [photo]

Marriage record found on ancestry for Elmer Joness to Essie Mabel Henote, State of Indiana, Putnam County (where they were both born) on 10th? or 19th? Oct 1907 (license granted 5 Oct 1907)
Unfortunately, this predates our Elmer’s marriage to Hettie in 1913, so is probably the wrong guy, as he was buried with Essie many years later on

In 1916 Canada Census, Elmer and Essie Jones were living in Bow River, Alberta.
