- Elder sister Elizabeth "Lillie" was more like their mother, strict, and brooked no interference. Lillie Parkyn was also a gifted musician - pianist and organist - and as a young woman once played for Queen Victoria at Windsor Castle. The Parkyns wouldn't hear of their daughter - a "lady" - working, teaching, or publicly concertizing. She never married, and lived into the 1940s somewhere in western England, in her final years penniless and supported by former servants.
- Elizabeth is the one standing in the photo of the 2 sisters in 1895

Notes from his great-grandson:
- JWP was a 3rd cousin (through the Lindon family) of Caroline Edith Biddulph (d.1948), who married the Hon. Edward Haworth-Leslie, 2nd son of Mary Elizabeth, 18th Countess of Rothes (1811-1893). Caroline was an aunt by marriage of Norman Leslie, 19th Earl of Rothes (1877-1927), whose wife is remembered as a prominent passenger (and survivor) aboard the "Titanic" on its ill-fated maiden voyage in 1912. - Lucy Noël Martha, Countess of Rothes - Titanic Survivor - http://www.encyclopedia-titanica.org/titanic-survivor/countess-of-rothes.html
- Our great grandfather, (John) William Parkyn (1869-1947), was a close friend of his first cousin, Elizabeth (“Lillie”) (Wills) Cory (1856-1908), first wife of Sir Herbert Cory, 1st Baronet (1857-1933), a shipping magnate and co-owner with his brother of the large Cory fleet, based in Cardiff, Wales. In the years leading up to the Parkyns leaving Britain for Canada in 1906, Lillie Cory was a protective benefactress of her younger cousin Willie Parkyn, who was struggling to make a living and support his numerous young family.
- Their daughter Lilian more than once laughingly told me how Grandpa would tease Grandma by singing to her his version of a popular in English "music hall" number:
At Michaelstone church I met my doom
Now we live in a top back room
Up to my eyes in debt for renty
That's what she's done for me."
She would laugh and say, "Now, Willie!!"
The actual lyrics mentioned a different church in the chorus of “At Trinity Church (I Met My Doom)” by Fred Gilbert, 1894.
- When asked if music and theatrics were in his blood?: “Oh, yes, they were indeed. (John) William Parkyn was not raised to be a farmer, so on his marriage to a Welsh farmer's daughter (apparently with his mother's strong disaprroval), he gave farming a try. But, back in the late 1960s elderly relatives in South Wales said that as a young married couple Willie and Cecilia Parkyn were off in the carraige many nights to the theatre in Cardiff.”
- “My mother adored her grandfather Parkyn. She said he had the bluest eyes imaginable, always twinking with mischief, merriment. In the early 1940s, Mom was a glamorous fashion model, several inches taller than her grandfather. When she would greet him she would kiss the bald top of his head, leaving bright red lipstick behind - he would laugh!”
- regarding an anniversary photo [assumed 1941]: They had a long and happy marriage. Grandpa would live another seven years, Grandma till 1954. Though I was a little guy, I remember her well. … Interesting height differential: he was about 5'6", she nearly 5'10"
On 12 Aug 1891 when John William* was 21, he married
Cecilia Elvira MORRIS in Parish Chapel, Michaelston, Monmouth, Wales, UK.
Born on 9 Oct 1870 in St Woolos, Michaelston, Monmouth, Wales, UK. Cecilia Elvira died in Dundee, Kane, IL, USA, on 6 Sep 1954; she was 83. Buried on 9 Sep 1954 in Woodstock, McHenry, IL, USA.

RESEARCH NOTES
- 1940 census says she was born in England; had an H4 education
- from a descendant, regarding ancestry of “… our Welsh great grandmother Cecilia (Morris) Parkyn. Ann was our g-g-g-g grandmother, born Ann Williams, christened 1 January 1786 at Bassaleg, Gwent, Wales, married 23 November 1802 at Bassaleg to our g-g-g-g grandfather, William Jones, who farmed nearby at Llanedeyrne, Glamorgan, Wales. Our great aunt Mabel lived in Bassaleg and I stayed with her twice in the late 1960s and 1970s. In 1973, I attended a wedding in the ancient parish church of Bassaleg, where - 187 years previously - our g-g-g-g grandmother Ann Williams (later Jones) was christened, and where - 171 years, previously - she herself had been a bride. I truly sensed being "surrounded" by family. Seriously, a mystical sense of "belonging".” [photo of] St. Basil's Church, Bassaleg, Gwent, Wales. Must have been sad for his widowed father, John Collings Parkyn (1839-1917), who lived nearby, to see his youngest son die in the war – his other two surviving sons [William and Charles] having also emigrated to Canada (eventually to the USA). Great-great grandfather died soon after.
Lindon Parkyn, died in a military hospital at Liphook, Hampshire, England in March 1916. ... Uncle Lindon, when he died, left a widow and young child living in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire
“Lindon Collings Parkyn (1873-1916) is buried in the Trellech churchard. He died during WW1. He had moved to Canada by 1914, so when the war began he enlisted in the Canadian Expeditionary Forces. Being a bit "long in the tooth" (over 40) at his enlistment, it appears he understated his age. I infer from this that he was highly patriotic. His name is carved on the War Memorial in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire. A liitle info:
Private, 47th Batallion, Canadian Infantry (Western Ontario Regiment).
Enlisted 3 November 1915 at New Westminster, Ontario, Canada.
Pte Lindon PARKYN, 47th Battalion (Western Ontario Regiment) Canadian Infantry, is buried in this cemetery. He died of illness in UK on 10th March 1916, aged 39.
