Surprised by their friends
While Mr. and Mrs. B. Saladin were quietly and happily celebrating their silver wedding Wednesday evening at their home, No. 49 N. Pleasant St., they were suddenly and agreeably surprised by some 30 or 35 of their friends, who had "dropped in" to spend the evening with them in honor of their wedding anniversary. The guests found the "bride" of other days wearing in her hair the same white ribbon which she wore on her wedding day, which she had donned with special care Wednesday evening in memory of her wedding. "The "groom" was sitting near her and both were enjoying the contents of a large pan of popcorn.
The self-invited guests, joined by Mr. and Mrs. Saladin, indulged in car-playing, some choosing pedro and others "sixty-six" while piano music furnished still further entertainment. At 10:30 a bountiful supper, which the guests had brought with them, was served. It consisted of such good old substantials as wieners and sauer kraut, coffee, doughnuts and rye bread, and was further added to by the remnants of a birthday cake made by the "gude wife" Mary as a surprise on her spouse Barney. After supper the games were resumed until midnight, when the part broke up.
Mr. and Mrs. Saladin were married 25 years ago on the old Denman homestead in Townsend Township, but have made Norwalk their home for a number of years past.
