[see 3-page pdf document - contains family history information]
Transcribed letter from Elizabeth Morgan Wood, daughter of Samuel McClure Morgan and Frances Amanda Johnston to Bessie Coleman Robertson collection. Note: This transcribed letter was from an old copy that Eva Frances Morgan Collins gave to William J Morgan Jr, as she passed down the genealogy search. The photocopy that she gave William J Morgan Jr was barely readable due to age of copy and apparently the original letter was not in very good shape. The original is still believed to be contained in the Bessie Coleman Robertson collection.
NOTE: Elizabeth “Lizzie” Morgan Wood was half-sister to Margaret Edith “Edie” Morgan
In 1920 when Margaret Edith “Edie” was 22, she married Delbert J CASSELL, son of Zedekai CASSELL & Sarah SENNETT. Born on 8 May 1894 in Normal, Kentucky, USA.

- about 1973 - Newman Pin Newspaper Article: “Cherished, valuable old pin disappears, believed stolen”
The missing pin photographed when it was the subject of a story in the Ledger-Star in 1965
“PORTSMOUTH - A jeweled pin once owned by John Henry Newman, English churchman and cardinal of the Roman Catholic Church, and valued at more than $10,000, has been reported stolen from a Portsmouth woman. Mrs. Ruth Morgan of the first block of Foxgrape Road told police that the pin has been missing for about two months. Efforts to locate the pin around the house have failed ... Mrs. Morgan said the pin was the cherished heirloom possession of her late husband, Harry Compton Morgan, who died three years ago. ...” [see clipping for more]
[This appearred in the Virginian Pilot/Ledgar Star in Portsmouth, VA, after my grandfathers death in 1970, reporting in the article 3 years past. This would place it about 1973.. The pin was reported to have been tied to John Henry Newman and Mary Compton, Harry's Grandmother (Wife of Sir Henry Compton). Further family lore is that a member of the Morgan family removed the pin for safekeeping and still has it. In addition, the family stories is that the pin is supposed to be passed down to the male Morgan heirs. Note: The picture is from the original story in 1965 about the pin and guns (way prior to any disappearances) and the hand holding the pin is Harry C Morgans. In addition, from my memory, the pin and the head had separated William J. "Billy" Morgan Jr.]
