Bowen & Co.: “He [Charles] has become the father of 9 children, 6 sons and 3 daughters of whom the subject of this sketch [William] is the 4th in order of birth. The latter [William] passed his school days in St. Eleanor’s, continuing his studies until his 16th year, when he engaged in clerking in a store at St. Eleanor’s, in which he remained 2 years. He then returned to the homestead, where he remained until attaining his majority, at which time his father [Charles] purchased the Hope farm and [William] located on it. About this time the subject of this sketch [William] married and bought the Alfred Compton farm and a portion of the Schurman property, thus coming into possession of 200 acres of as good farming land as can be found in this locality. He entered at once upon the active cultivation of these tracts and during the following years carried on a diversified system of farming in which he has been distinctively successful. During recent years he has done an extensive business in the raising and fattening of hogs, which he has found a profitable line of enterprise. The place is well improved with a neat and well arranged residence, substantial and commodious barns and other farm outbuildings, and is considered one of the most productive homesteads in Lot 17. Mr. Andrew and his son operate the properties jointly. Mr Andrew married Miss Harriet W. Compton, of St Eleanors, a daughter of Harry Compton, and a niece of Hubert C. Compton, and to this union have been born the following children: Alice, a professional nurse in Charlottetown; Albert Ed, a clergyman of the Episcopal church and located at Antigonish, Nova Scotia; Delores, engaged in clerking at Summerside; Horace, who owns the Benjamin Schurman farm of 100 acres at St. Eleanors; Isabel, a trained nurse; Fanny, Mabel, Sadie and Harry. In religion Mr. Andrew is a member of the Episcopal church in which he has served as an elder for many years and enjoys the sincere respect and the absolute confidence of all who know him.”

GR Harrison, who spoke in eloquent terms of theh love and devotion of those who had erected the tablet, not only as a memoriam to their beloved parents, but as a perpetual reminder of the service they have rendered to Christ and his church....

- Brothers William and John ANDREW (both children of Charles ANDREW and Mary HOPGOOD) married sisters Harriet Washbourne COMPTON and Sarah Hannah COMPTON (both children of Albert Harry* COMPTON and Mary Robinson COATES).

- Regarding the photo of William with his 2 oldest grandsons: I'm not sure what the occasion was. If the 2 boys were ages 4 and 2 (just barely) then the picture could have been taken at the time of William's daughter Fanny's marriage to Rick Hunt in Aug 1908. The next big occasion would have been William and Harriet's 40th wedding anniversary in Oct 1910 - that makes more sense to me, but the boys would have been 6 and 4 then. I'm not very good a guessing ages. Or it could have been taken during a visit from the grandkids who lived in Nova Scotia; William lived in PEI. I don't know why the boy's older sister wasn't including in the picture - she was William's oldest grandchild.

On 21 Jan 1890 when George Major was 38, he married Eliza Jane MACGOUGAN in St Johns Anglican Church, St Eleanors, Prince Co., PEI, Canada. Born on 8 Nov 1857. Eliza Jane died on 14 Nov 1945; she was 88. Buried in St Johns Anglican Church, St Eleanors, Prince Co., PEI, Canada.

RESEARCH NOTES
- Was he descended from Donald Campbell AKA Daniel who was a refugee around 1785 when he came to the Island of Saint John  ( now PEI) with his wife Margaret Fullerton and I think 2 children .  He had a mixed plantation in N Carolina and fled shortly after the Revolutionary War to Jamaica then later Shelburne NS and finally to Island of Saint John  where he was granted 500 acres in Lot 16.  His son William was also granted 500 acres and it said that he was already married when he came to the Island but wife's name was unknown.   [A loyalist-related letter is on file] Also there is a Thomas Compton Campbell his father was Donald AKA Daniel  would  be a son of the 1st Donald and it looks like he married a Jane Murray of North Bedeque at St Eleanors Mar 13 1812.  This was 32 yrs before the Daniel that you mentioned was born…?. 

On 23 Nov 1898 when Sarah Hannah was 44, she married John ANDREW, son of Charles S ANDREW (1821-1906) & Mary HOPGOOD (1823-1894), in St Johns Anglican Church, St Eleanors, PEI, Canada. Born on 31 Oct 1844 in N St Eleanors, Prince Co, PEI, Canada. John died in St Eleanors, Prince Co, PEI, Canada, on 10 Oct 1926; he was 81. An illustation showing the Church and idts boundary is in the corner of the deed. This is in the possession of Mrs. Henry W Compton a great grand-daughter of Colonel Compton. Tis was the Mission Church, which was afterward moved to Miscouche.”

The funeral takes place from the home at 2 p.m. tomorrow (Tuesday) to St. John's Church, St. Eleanors, service beginning at 2:30 p.m. Interment in the adjoing cemetery.

- He was 2nd Lieutenant of the 51st Ala. Infantry Regiment, also known as the 51st Partisan. He enlisted on May 27th, 1862 in Oxford, AL. Promoted to 1st Lt. July 31, 1864. Paroled at XXX General Chrysler on May 31, 1865. Samuel outlived 4 wives - Amanda Francis Johnston (Nov. 13, 1855), Sallie Gary Orr (Dec. 28, 1875), Edith Compton, and Anna Compton. Edith and Anna were sisters.
- his first cousin was General John Hunt Morgan (also in the confederate army) who in the history books is the famous general of the Morgan’s Raiders. - [see digital.archvies.alabama.gov/ photo collection]
- Samuel had 4 (Rumored 5 wives) in his lifetime. marrying Edith and Anna in his early 60s (He would have been 62 when the twins were born in 1897). Incidentally, there has been no evidence that he was a Major. I think because he was a Morgan, living in Lexington and at the time period apparently was very well off, it was one of those “honorary” names among the veterans and it stuck. Even on his tombstone.
- Samuel Morgan had 4 wives, the last 2 being Edith Compton and then her sister Anna Mary Compton, the only one to outlive him.
- His second wife (name not known) had at least 2 sons: Fred (who married Ruby ______; they lived in Dent OH), and Gene (had a daughter named Ruby Jean, wife’s name not known, lived in Little Rock, Ark.).
- He had around 14 - 16 children. Children listed for Sam and Edith are May, Edith, Roy, Sydney, William (Billy) and Walter (all last name Morgan). All except Edith [and Harry] were likely step-children from first marriage?
- Apparently there was quite a dissent in the family over the inheritance and jealousy over the different mothers, etc. Contact was lost with the first wife’s family.

- was a Major in the Civil War on the Confederate side.
- He was 2nd Lieutenant of the 51st Ala. Infantry Regiment, also known as the 51st Partisan. He enlisted on May 27th, 1862 in Oxford, AL. Promoted to 1st Lt. July 31, 1864. Paroled at XXX General Chrysler on May 31, 1865. Samuel outlived 4 wives - Amanda Francis Johnston (Nov. 13, 1855), Sallie Gary Orr (Dec. 28, 1875), Edith Compton, and Anna Compton. Edith and Anna were sisters.
- his first cousin was General John Hunt Morgan (also in the confederate army) who in the history books is the famous general of the Morgan’s Raiders. - [see digital.archvies.alabama.gov/ photo collection]
- Samuel had 4 (Rumored 5 wives) in his lifetime. marrying Edith and Anna in his early 60s (He would have been 62 when the twins were born in 1897). Incidentally, there has been no evidence that he was a Major. I think because he was a Morgan, living in Lexington and at the time period apparently was very well off, it was one of those “honorary” names among the veterans and it stuck. Even on his tombstone.
- Samuel Morgan had 4 wives, the last 2 being Edith Compton and then her sister Anna Mary Compton, the only one to outlive him.
- His second wife (name not known) had at least 2 sons: Fred (who married Ruby ______; they lived in Dent OH), and Gene (had a daughter named Ruby Jean, wife’s name not known, lived in Little Rock, Ark.).
- He had around 14 - 16 children. Children listed for Sam and Edith are May, Edith, Roy, Sydney, William (Billy) and Walter (all last name Morgan). All except Edith [and Harry] were likely step-children from first marriage?
- Apparently there was quite a dissent in the family over the inheritance and jealousy over the different mothers, etc. Contact was lost with the first wife’s family.
