- According to another family researcher: Frank E Plowman's mother was Eugenie Loyer (1854-1911) and she was the wife of Samuel Plowman. Samuel had a love rival....who lodged with his parents at 87 Hackford Road in London! This lodger fell for Eugenie and gave her a present.

- from wikipedia: “The artist Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) lived at 87 Hackford Road, then the house of Ursula Loyer and her daughter Eugenie, in 1873.[1] He wrote to his brother Theo van Gogh from this address.[2] He arrived in London to start work at the art dealership Goupil & Co. in Southampton Street, central London, on 19 May 1873.[3] From August of that year, he lived in Hackford Road.[4] His stay is now recorded with a blue plaque, installed a hundred years later in 1973. He sketched the Georgian terrace opposite Durand School in Hackford Road during the 1870s.[5] There is a small conservation area, first designated in 1974, which includes the house where van Gogh lived.[6]” References include: http://vangoghletters.org
ALSO http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vincent_van_Gogh - “IIn July 1869, his uncle Cent helped him obtain a position with the art dealer Goupil & Cie in The Hague. After his training, in June 1873, Goupil transferred him to London, where he lodged at 87 Hackford Road, Brixton, and worked at Messrs. Goupil & Co., 17 Southampton Street.[21] This was a happy time for Vincent; he was successful at work and was, at 20, earning more than his father. Theo's wife later remarked that this was the happiest year of Vincent's life. He fell in love with his landlady's daughter, Eugénie Loyer, but when he finally confessed his feelings to her, she rejected him, saying that she was secretly engaged to a former lodger. He became increasingly isolated and fervent about religion; his father and uncle arranged for him to be transferred to Paris, where he became resentful at how art was treated as a commodity, a fact apparent to customers. On 1 April 1876, Goupil terminated his employment.[22]”

- from http://www.vangoghaventure.com/english/chrono/eugenie.html
“In London, he boards with Mme Loyer and her daughter Eugénie with whom he falls in love. When he decides to propose to her, Eugénie turns him down, she’s not in love with him. She’s already engaged to a man, the one who used to rent the bedroom before him, and whom he replaced, but not in her heart... Vincent doesn’t understand, doesn’t accept this, he wants to seduce her and insists. Eugénie’s mother asks him to leave the boarding house forever.
He goes back to Helvoirt much depressed then comes back with his sister who’s looking for a job in London. But he’s not well. Goupil sends him in Paris for two months, hoping that he will recover.
Unfortunately, things get worse and he goes back to London shaken with a mystic crisis. He reads the Bible and feels guilty, he wants to “die to himself”.
That coming back to London was a catastophe and the gallery moves him for good to Paris.”

- see http://www.dbnl.org/tekst/_van012199601_01/_van012199601_01_0009.php for analysis of the affects of this rejection on van Gogh’s life and his art. Also quotes from Vincent’s letters to his brother Theo, which makes light of the relationship. His sister Anna was the one who compiled and interpreted the letters after his death.
“on 24 February 1874, Anna told Theo that she had received a letter from Vincent in which he wrote that Eugénie (now given her correct name) had a fiancé, ‘a good natured youth,’ as Vincent called him, ‘who would know to appreciate her [sic].’ ‘He [Vincent] seems to be always in good spirits.’12
That cheerfulness is also apparent in his letters to Theo. There is little evidence of a failed attempt to get Eugénie to break off her engagement and a subsequent depression in the summer of 1874, at least not in the correspondence. On the contrary, Vincent was enjoying himself and working hard. On 10 June, Theo's father wrote to him saying that Mr Goupil, Van Gogh's employer, had told him that Vincent was very ambitious in his work.13
At the end of June Van Gogh left London for a fortnight's holiday at his parent's home in Helvoirt. He and Anna returned to London on 13 July, and she, too, lodged with the Loyers. They went on many walks together, and the letters show that they were having a pleasant time. The Reverend Van Gogh told Theo on 4 August that he had received yet another letter from Vincent and Anna that morning. They greatly enjoyed each other's company, and Anna said that the Loyers were good people who did everything they could to please her and Vincent.14 In short, there were no signs that anything was amiss. And Vincent in love? There is nothing in the letters to suggest it.”

1163. Ernest Walter PILCHER (Eliza Amelia BOORMAN8, Thomas7, Thomas6, William5, William4, William3, Thomas2, William1). Born in Q2 1888 in Merton, Croydon Reg Dist, Surrey, England.

- From "Notes on the Life and the Descendants of Thomas Boorman" c1950:
Ernest Pilcher worked in the offices of the Westminster Electric Lighting Co. till the commencement of the 1914-18 War when he enlisted immediately and served in France and was commissioned on the Field. He married Florence Scott and had 1 son, Robert Edwin, born 1921. Ernest did not settle down well after the war, and his marriage was not satisfactory. He was gassed in the War, not very badly, but he was never quite fit. He volunteered, however, in 1939, and I think served in some sort of Labour Corps and came through Dunkirk. I have not been in touch with him for a long time, but I think his brothers see him or hear of him occasionally. He is now (c1955?) working in the Licensing Dept. (Motors) at County Hall, Kingston-on-Thames.
