- The following was written by [William Denman’s] granddaughter, Priscilla Denman Eller, "I can remember my grandfather; he lived with my father (Henry Denman) many years on the old Denman homestead in the town of Neversink. There he settled when he first came to America. He was a scholar, & a gentleman. I remember his quoting Shakespeare, Milton Young's, Night Thoughts, & many other works to me in my childhood." "He was a man of iron will, strong likes & dislikes." "He endured many privations as one of the first settlers of this country, but his iron constitution endured the mall well & at the age of 90 years he was hale & hearty; walking 4 miles to present me with his photograph, which I still have in a good state of preservation. Grahmasville, Jan 15.-
On Friday morning at 11 o’clock the funeral of Mrs. Mary Denman was held from the M. E. Church. Mrs. Denman before her marriage was Mary VanBenschoten. She was born in 1844, therefore was 79 years old at the time of her death. Her husband, Acquilla Denman, died in 1917. After his death she made her home in Dunellen, N.J. She is survived by three daughters and seven sons, some residing near here and some out West. The family has the sympathy of the entire community as she was well like by all who knew her.
