RESEARCH NOTES:
- This Ann was too young to be the one who married Willliam Wickett in 1800 (unless she was an older child when baptised in 1789). .. The Andrews may be related to the Wicketts through the Cornish line. A William Wickett of Kilkhampton married an Anne Cornish of Launcells, by banns, on 18 Jan 1800 by John Davis. Both signed in presence of Richard Wickett and Edward Watter. This William who was age 35 in the 1841 census might have been their son. Note also that one of the other labourers listed is a Samuel Cornish, perhaps another relative.] - this can’t be the correct Ann Cornish [she’s too young to be married in 1800] - the Cornish family seems to be large in this general area, possibly all related.

1841 CENSUS: Charles Andrew was noted as an agricultural labourer in Lopthorne, Launcells, Cornwall (Enumeration District 5, civil parish of Launcells, folio 21, pg 5). He was living in the household of William Wickett. (Charles’ wife to be, Mary Hopgood, was not found in the census although her parents and siblings were [this refers incorectly to John and Ann Hopgood who were not our Mary’s parents - perhaps uncle and aunt?]). : HO 107/151, Enumeration District 5, Civil Parish of Launcells, Book 5 Folio 22 Page 5 - Lopthorn,1,

RESEARCH NOTES
- Sources vary about which Mary Cornish married Richard Banbury:
“George Allin has Mary as the daughter of Phillip and Ann Wickett and the Revd Cornish has the father as Samuel Cornish and Grace Tucker. Looking at the marriage in 1812 it has as witnesses a William Wickett and John Cornish, so which one do you want? ...The other baptism is for Mary Cornish, bapt 16 Aug 1795 Marhamchurch Cornwall, daughter of Philip and Ann., and is the correct Mary based on age at death (gravestone in Ohio).

RESEARCH NOTES
- according to one researcher:
Philip Cornish m. Mary Adams in Kilkhampton
Samuel Cornish m. Grace Tucker in Kilkhampton
Elizabeth/Betsey Cornish m. Joseph Bray in Bradworthy, Devon
Grace Bray m. John Evans in Hartland, Devon
Joseph Evans m. Mary Adams (yes another one) in Ontario, Canada. Both Joseph and Mary had been born in England.
Ada Elva Evans m. Gordon James Brown in South Dakota, USA - these are my great-grandparents. Gordon's family was from Ontario and had moved to South Dakota when he was a child.
I am descended from Elizabeth/Betsey Cornish and her husband Joseph Bray.  My line is through their daughter Grace Bray who married Joseph Evans [corrected to John Evans] of Hartland.  They moved to Ontario, Canada in the 1870's after all their children had been born and many had already grown up and married.  I am descended through their son John Evans [corrected to Joseph Evans] who went to Ontario with them, and moved down to the States after he had started his own family in Canada.  His brother Samuel moved down to the States as well and they lived in the same town.  They seem to have been very close.  I had never known where the name Samuel came from, but I now believe that Samuel Evans was named after Elizabeth Cornish's father Samuel Cornish. - later corrections : “my own mis-type. I wrote the names backwards here - I meant to say "who married John Evans..." and "descended from their son Joseph Evans..."

Together with many others, and children Maria (9), Joseph (7), Elizth (3) (surnames Bray)::
Elizth Brey. Age 45. In Mate. Born in Devon.

- Since the Brays (Samuel's daughter Elizabeth/Betsey's family) ended up in the workhouse I greatly doubt they had enough to leave a will in the first place.

Mary Ann Bray born 1828 Bradworthy
Maria Bray bap 1832 Bradworthy
Joseph Bray born 1834 Bradworthy
Elizabeth Bray born c1838 Bradworthy
On 25 Sep 1820 when Betsy was 22, she married Joseph BRAY in Bradworthy, Devon, England. Born ca 1798.

RESEARCH NOTES
- Joseph presumably died between 1837 and 1841... or Joseph may have vamoosed as distinct from died.
- “I definitely do not presume that Joseph Bray has died; so far I have found no candidates (not even the wrong one) for what would be a statutory death in 1837-1841 and I have looked into a wide range of other possibilities, such as being sent to jail, transported to Australia, or leaving the family to start over somewhere new within or outside England (possibly under a new name). Some of the other Bray researchers I know have also been looking into some of these things. To date none of us can find any record on him after he apparently was in Bradworthy to get Elizabeth pregnant with her last known child, also named Elizabeth.”
They had the following children:
543i.
Maria BRAY (Died as Infant) (~1821-1823)

- Notes from Laing MacDowell:
> On tombstone, Lot 17 Cemetary # 2 Stone 289 "Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord. In memory of Maria, beloved wife of William Boundy died Sept 11, 1877 Aet 76 years. Yet again we hope to meet Thee when the day of life is fled, Then in Heaven with joy to greet Thee, where no farewell tear is shed."
> 8 children listed

RESEARCH NOTES:
- don’t know when the family immigrated to Canada - likely before 1841 as can’t find in the UK 1841 census.
- number of children vary - 1 list 10 (youngest 2 born in PEI), another source lists 7 (minus Grace and the youngest 2). OPC database only lists 3 baptisms in Kilkhampton for William and Mary (Samuel, Charlotte, William) and 1 (Mary) for William and Mary). Dorcas Ann is listed in IGI (batch P0007171). Maria is listed in earlier IGI batch C07172.
- death date also listed as 30 Oct 1928, Kilkhhampton - an obvious error as age would be 127!
- There is a John and Ann Cornish living in Morwenstow Cornwall in 1841 census, close to a Richard & Sarah Boundy family - both families somehow connected?

> Obit reads in part: “All last summer he was able to work around the farm, and during the time of harvest a day never passed in which he was not employed in binding and stacking the grain. Although ailing the past four or five weeks he was able to be out on Thursday last so that his death so soon afterwards was rather unexpected. He was a native of Cornwall England and leaves one son, five daughters (Grace had already died) 53 grandchildren and 54 great grandchildren.

Several sources list him married twice, once to Catherine Gay and then to Maria Cornish in 1828. Catherine reportedly died young in late 1827 or early 1828. She is credited with being the mother of Eliza Boundy, baptised Nov 1825. The mother of the next child Grace is uncertain as she was reportedly born 1826 or 1828? It is also a possibility that Grace was born a Cornish (not a Boundy) in 1826, the base born daughter of his second wife Maria Cornish, but seems to have been raised a Boundy.
I have been unable to find primary sources for much of this information.
