On 17 Nov 1786 when Samuel was 25, he married Grace TUCKER / TAPE in Kilkhampton Parish Church, Kilkhampton, Cornwall, England. Born in 1763 in Morwenstow, Cornwall, England. Christened on 20 May 1763 in Morwenstow, Cornwall, England. Grace died in Probably Kilkhampton, Cornwall, England, in Mar 1834; she was 71. Buried on 5 Mar 1834 in Kilkhampton Church, Kilkhampton, Cornwall, England.
- Daughter of Joseph Tucker and Mary Down.
- There were two John Tucker famillies in Morenstow in the 1750s. One, apparently Joseph’s brother, was also surnamed Tucker-otherwise-Tape. They obviously used their Mother’s maiden name to differentiate the two families. In the IGI there is a record of Charity Tap (SIC) to James Tucker on Sept 26, 1733 and the birth of their son John on Nov 5, 1733, both on Sandford, Devon. There were quite a number of Taps, Tappes, and Tapes in the area of Sandford, which is south of Barnstaple.
- Grace’s father Joseph Tucker married Mary Brutton in Kilkhampton Apr 24, 1755. That Mary died in Morenstow May 14, 1761, so Grace was the daughter of the Mary Down who Joseph married Nov 29, 1762 in Barnstaple, Devon. Morenstow and Barnstaple are on the water so travel between would not have been too difficult.
