As a young man he worked for Swift Bros. drygoods merchants in Watford, Ontario, Canada where he rose to become head of the staff and chief buyer for the company. Reasons of ill health compelled him to leave and go to Rossland, British COlumbia in 1908. He worked as manager of a drygoods store there. After two years he openned his own store in Penhold, Alberta, Canada. Thereafter he carried the business of drygoods in Rossland, B.C., Nanaimo, B.C., and then Lees, Alberta and finally at Kewlona, British Columbia. After his retirement from the business he and his second wife, Hazel lived for a time at Grimsby, Ontario to be near his brother, Art. They returned to Kelowna in 1947 and lived at 795 Wolsey Avenue until his death.
