- George Stokes and a niece Anne Edwards (nee Kester) published a Stokes-Kester booklet in 1971. Being done in the "old" days there are no census records etc and all the information came from family members. It makes it interesting in a way because there are personal comments about what people had accomplished. George died in 1972 and I recall he was not very well for several years. I think getting the booklet published required a lot of effort and he really wanted to get it done before he departed. Anne is gone now as well and had no children and was an only child.

- From George’s family tree booklet:
“George Kester Stokes was born June 5, 1888 at Minesing, son of Thomas Stokes and Annie Keturah Kester. He completed a commercial course at the Elliott Buisiness College in Toronto in 1908 and went to work for the Aikenhead Hardware Co. Ltd., who transferred him to their branch office in Winnipeg, January 1912. From there he went to work in the Accounting department of the T. Eaton Co. Ltd. in 1914, and with the exception of a few years in Thornhill Ontario in the 1920’s worked there until retirement in 1953. For 20 years prior to retirement, was Head Cashier. In 1914 he married Evelyn Maud Kerfoot, and except the few years at Thornhill, they made their home in Winnipeg. Evelyn Maud Kerfoot was born October 21, 1887 at Minesing, daughter of William Henry Kerfoot and Elizabeth Walton. She graduated from the Barrie Collegiate and Faculty of Education, University of Toronto, and taught school until her marriage to George K Stokes on September 14, 1914. Her teaching career included schools in Edenvale, Minesing and Glen Allan.”
