- Son of William Slaughter (1752) and Susannah Jennings (1755), grandson of William Slaughter (1726) and Susannah Moulden (1729), and great-grandson of John Slaughter (1685) and Katherine Finnes (1697).

The entry was searched for for years in every conceivable parish in Kent and finally located and reported by Achievements, Ltd., 29 Sep 1975. They searched Parish Registers of Holy Cross, Westgate, Canterbury, Kent, England; U3/10/1/1 Baptisms Jan 1678/79 to Nov 1690. "From last parchment leaf of the register: 1 May 1777 Thomas son of Wiliiam Slaughter and Susanna his wife. This omitted in the parish register taken a faithful copy of the Clarke book Jly 24 1799. - DEATH: The death date we have comes from Sarah Slaughter, daughter of Thomas, on a little scr ap of paper giving the birth and death dates of various members of the family. The paper was with things in the possession of Annie Huey Slaughter and divided up by the family when she died. It came into the posession of Nicholas Slaughter, Bakersfield, CA 93311, from his father who had obtained it from Annie Slaughter Sackett. We have not been able to acertain the place where Thomas died and was buried but his will was signed and dated Glasgow, Scotland

Found original notice in london gazette 11 Jan 1823 Whereas a Commission of Bankrupt is awarded and issued forth against Thomas Slaughter, of th e Parish of Seal, in the County of Kent, Tanner, Dealer and Chapman, and he being declare d a Bankrupt is hereby required to surrender himself to the Commissioners in the said Commiss ion named, or the major part of them, on the 18th and 25th days of January instant, and on th e 2nd day of February next, at Twelve of the Clock at Noon on each day, at the Court of Commi ssioners of Bankrupts, in Basinghall Street, in the City of London, and make a full Discover y and Disclosure of his Estate and effects; when and where the Creditors are to come prepare d to prove their Debts, and at the Second Sitting to choose Assignees, and at the Last Sittin g, the said Bankrupt is required to finish his Examination, and the Creditors are to assent t o or dissent from the Allowance of his Certificate. Comments by Stephen Williamson: William and Thomas Slaughter were still tanning in Canterbury in 1809, but their father Will iam Jnr and his cousin Edward seemed to have returned to Sandwich about 1802. William Jnr an d his sons William and Thomas listed as tanners near Westgate in 1802 Militia Reserve List (L ieutenancy Roll). William Slaughter listed as Tanner in Canterbury and William Slaughter Jn r. (his father) as Tanner in Sandwich, Edward Slaughter Gent in Sandwich, John Slaughter as B utcher, Isaac Slaughter Jun. as Collector of Customs, Isaac Slaughter Sen. Gent, William Slau ghter Sen. Gent in 1803 Finch’s Directory. Thomas Slaughter listed as Tanner, North Lane in H olden 1805/7 Directory. William Slaughter (Jnr) listed in 1803/1808 Finch Directories and in 1824 Pigot Dir. as Tanne r in Sandwich and in 1828 Pigot Dir. at the Canterbury Gate. William Jnr died 27/10/1829 in S andwich . Some bank details for William Slaughter survive for period 1788-1815 and are stil l to be investigated.
