- Emigrated to Australia about 1850 with 10 children [must have been after 1851 census - see below for passenger list, only 5 children with them]. One daughter Mary Ann Lillywhite (k'Polly) was left behind. She was adopted by Aunt (Ann) Scoons who had no children [Ann Boorman, Jane’s sister, married a Dalby Scoons]. Polly married an Uncle [nephew?] Scoons and had 3 children.
From a 1950’s memoirs: “Aunt and Uncle Lillywhite immigrated to Australia in or about the year 1850, taking with ten of their eleven children. One daughter, named Mary Ann, they left behind with Aunt and Uncle Scoons [Dalby Scoons and Ann nee Boorman] who, being childless themselves, wished to adopt her. She was generally known as Polly Scoons and she eventually married a nephew of Uncle Scoons and had three sons. I do not know how many of the ten young Lillywhites were boys to carry on the name, but probably a goodly number of their descendants are to be found in Australia today.”

- “When [Thomas] Boorman became of an age to start work, he was apprenticed to a coach-builder and served his seven years apprentice-ship in the Camberwell neighbourhood. When that period ended he had next to find himself a post as an improver or journeyman. So he set out one morning from his home in Camberwell and walked on stopping at any likely looking Coachbuilders' premises to enquire if a workman were required.
“He must have walked some distance. Presumably through Kennington, Clapham and part of Battersea before he found himself approach Wandsworth by way of East Hill. Going down the hill he came to a Coach builder's works with the name of Stamper. He enquired there and was taken on, found himself lodgings in Wandsworth and settled dawn to his new job.”

- “At what time Grandfather [Thomas] Boorman first became connected with the Congregational Church in Wandsworth I do not know. Certainly he and Grandmother attended that Church all their married life and Grandfather was a deacon for quite fifty years, up to the time of his death. But I do not know whether he went there first because of his attachment to Mary Ann Green or whether it was the other way round. Grandmother was said to have experienced 'Conversion' and she was certainly somewhat puritanical. Great-grand- father Green was certainly Church of England and so it would appear, were the Boorman great- grandparents.”
“They were both exceedingly upright, conscientious people - somewhat narrow minded in their religious views and most uncompromisingly honest and straight forward in their dealings. The Wandsworth Congregational Church, to which they belonged, was founded by the Huguenots’, who settled when they came over from France after the revocation of the Edict of Nantes. During the many years when Grandfather was in the prime of life and his business was flourishing. I believe he gave the Church liberal financial help.”

- Wandsworth Old Burial Ground, now often known as Garratt Lane Old Burial Ground. It was consecrated as early as 1808 and had fallen into disuse by the turn of the Twentieth Century, surprisingly early. As with Mount Nod, which is a short distance away, it has connections with the Huguenot community. It has been laid to grass as a public amenity, but there are still memorials to be seen, including members of the well-known family of Chatting, a corruption of the Huguenot name Chaterlaine. Near the Chattings are memorials to members of the Bowman and Rucker families ... [No Boorman names yet indexed in this cemetery]

“We tracked down the Garratt Lane burial ground. The area has now been almost entirely cleared of gravestones and it is a pleasant grassed area, a little oasis, in the middle of the hubbub that is Wandsworth. When we arrived is was full of office workers eating their sandwiches and strolling along the paths. [We] quickly checked the few remaining headstones with no luck and were just going to take a photo of the area when I spotted a "path" of felled headstones at the far end of the park, I was amazed and delighted to find the headstone for Thomas and Mary Ann amongst them.
Sadly, the stone having been felled to make a path almost certainly gives us no clue to where Thomas and Mary Ann are actually buried within the site but I was still thrilled to find this tangible proof of their last resting place. The top of the stone is still in good condition but it deteriorates near the bottom and some flakes have broken off making is totally unreadable in places. I offer you my translation and I make no attempt to fill in the blanks even though you and I know what they are in most cases:
In memory of Mary Ann the beloved wife of Thomas Boorman who died Jan 5th 1862.
Blessed are the dead which die in The Lord from henceforth yea saith the spirit that they may rest from their labour and their works do follow them.
Also Harriet daughter of the above who died May 14th 1856 aged 2 years
Also interred in the burying ground of the Old Independant chapel 4 infant children of the above:

- Thomas Boorman's Wheelwright and Coach Building business may have been at 9 High Street near what is now a busy intersection, now the site of a college.
- Some of the Boorman records at at All Saints Church Wandsworth
- The Garrett Lane burial ground is located a block away from the High Street. It is becoming more of a grassy park as the old headstones crumble and fall. We searched and searched for the stone marker of Mary Ann Boorman wife and daughter Harriet of Thomas Boorman located near the path on the east entrance to the grounds.
Reads: In Memory of Mary Ann the beloved wife of Thomas Boorman who died January 5th 1862 agesd 45 years. Belssed are the dead which died in The Lord from henceforth yeas ? the spirit that they may rest from their labour and their works ? ? them .

As with Mount Nod, which is a short distance away, it has connections with the Huguenot community. It has been laid to grass as a public amenity, but there are still memorials to be seen, including members of the well-known family of Chatting, a corruption of the Huguenot name Chaterlaine. “We tracked down the Garratt Lane burial ground. The area has now been almost entirely cleared of gravestones and it is a pleasant grassed area, a little oasis, in the middle of the hubbub that is Wandsworth. When we arrived is was full of office workers eating their sandwiches and strolling along the paths. [We] quickly checked the few remaining headstones with no luck and were just going to take a photo of the area when I spotted a "path" of felled headstones at the far end of the park, I was amazed and delighted to find the headstone for Thomas and Mary Ann amongst them.
Sadly, the stone having been felled to make a path almost certainly gives us no clue to where Thomas and Mary Ann are actually buried within the site but I was still thrilled to find this tangible proof of their last resting place. The top of the stone is still in good condition but it deteriorates near the bottom and some flakes have broken off making is totally unreadable in places. I offer you my translation and I make no attempt to fill in the blanks even though you and I know what they are in most cases:

- Thomas Boorman's Wheelwright and Coach Building business may have been at 9 High Street near what is now a busy intersection, now the site of a college.
- Some of the Boorman records at at All Saints Church Wandsworth
- The Garrett Lane burial ground is located a block away from the High Street. It is becoming more of a grassy park as the old headstones crumble and fall. We searched and searched for the stone marker of Mary Ann Boorman wife and daughter Harriet of Thomas Boorman located near the path on the east entrance to the grounds.
