He went and was followed by his wife and all his family except Lillie.
“NOTE: William [son of William Scoons Boorman] immigrated to Canada when quite a youth intending to take up a Government grant of land and go in for farming. He found, on arrival there, that he was too young to be given a grant of land. His father (Uncle William) decided to go out to him, being then a middle aged man who had been a clerk most of his life. He went and was followed by his wife and all his family except for Lillie who then had a boarding house in Ventnor. Cousin William and Uncle William having died, Lillie decided to go out and join the rest of her family and she took with her Dorothy Freeman.”

This photo was taken from atop the Victoria Theatre looking east on View Street from the intersection with Douglas Street. The Victoria Theatre, along with the Driard Hotel, became part of Spencer's Department store in 1910. The building in the left-hand corner is the Hotel Vernon (where McDonald's is now) and St. Andrew's Cathedral can be seen in the distance on the corner of View and Blanshard.

RESEARCH NOTES
Likely also related by marriage to wife Louisa Boorman - there are 2 schools of thought:
1) because his grandmother Ann Bassett married Thomas Boorman (as wife #2?), Louisa Boorman's
grandfather, computed as per Nigel Masters notes
2) George Thomas Seeley and Louisa Boorman were 2nd cousins as well as husband and wife. GT was the son of William Seeley & Ann Tamkin. Ann being the daughter of William Tamkin and Susannah Boorman and Susannah, of course, was the daughter of William Boorman and Ann Weller.

- married Louisa Boorman and had 11 children or 12? (1 died young)
They had the following children:
1398i.
1399ii.
1400iii.
1402v.
1403vi.

- From "Notes on the Life and the Descendants of Thomas Boorman" (as of 1953) :
The Hookey family lived in Wandsworth and, at the time "Aunt Janie" was first engaged to Tom Hookey, he was an Assistant to a Pharmaceutical Chemist in Wandsworth, but he decided to become a Congregational Minister and qualified for that, and they were married when he had his first charge a Weldon, in Northamptonshire. He was there for several years and then for a short time a H..... After that he was successively at Baldock, Herts., Newmarket; West Bromwich (his largest and most important church) Abingdon, Berks. and Hollaton, Leicestershire. That was his last charge and he resigned that about 1907 or 08. He retired then from the Ministry as he found it increasingly difficult to get a church where the income was suffiecient to keep his wife and youngest daughter who was obliged to stay at home as Aunt Janie was, by that time, a chronic invalid and could be no help at all to Uncle Tom in his work. He then took up book keeping for a tradesman in Leicester and very pluckily earned his living in that way for some years before he died. Aunt Janie pre-deceased him by some few years. They has 6 children.

- From "Notes on the Life and the Descendants of Thomas Boorman" c1950:
Born Nov 17, 1852. Married John Charles Pilcher in the year 1877. Uncle Charlie Pilcher worked for Chapman & Hall, the publishers, in their Science and Educational Department all his working days, for over 60 years, and retired on full salary. RESEARCH NOTES
- no death registrations for Eliza A Pilcher in 1910. The closest one would be:
Deaths Dec 1914
Pilcher Eliza A 71 Faversham 2a 1187 [Kent]

Another researcher on genesreunited lists her husband as Richard Layton (b c1851, Ely Cambridgeshire, laborer at sugar refinery), with three children Adam, Richard and John.
Address:- 1881 35 Samuel St, St George in the East, Tower Hamlets.
In Q3 1877 when Eliza Amelia was 24, she married Charles John PILCHER in Wandsworth Reg Dist, Surrey, BC. Born in Q2 1852 in Biddenden, Kent, England.

RESEARCH NOTES
- BIRTH: census say he was born in Bidenden Kent, which is in the Tenterden Reg Dist. There are several possible birth registrations for Charles John Pilcher (and some for John Charles Pilcher but they are too late), but none are in the Tenterden Reg Dist. Options are:
1) Births Jun 1851
Pilcher Charles John Lambeth 4 287
2&3) Births Jun 1852
Pilcher Charles John Bridge 2a 457
Pilcher Charles John Cranbrook 2a 409
4) Births Dec 1854
Pilcher Charles John N. Aylesford 2a 247
As Biddenden is between Tenterden and Cranbrook (and slightly north, the most likely registration is the one in Cranbrook I think. Bridge is further east near Canterbury.

- may be the son of Charles Pilcher (1825- ) and Louisa Pilcher (1829- )

Carthage Carthage, [MO] the county seat, 27 miles from Pierce City, is near the center of the county. It was at the close of the Civil War a depopulated village with only three buildings in good condition. . .It had 1 woolen mill, with 6 looms; 2 foundries and ...

- A newsclipping (not cited or dated) concerns the birth of a son (unnamed):
“”Mingyhaclnx” - The above well known shout of Joe Barrett the Carthage dispenser of metropoliton newspapers was not heard upon the streets last night. People wondered and kept on wondering. Inquiry at the “store” disclosed the fact that just before supper a messenger had came hastily and whispered something in Joe’s ear. Instantly there was a stampede. Joe grabbed his hat and started down the street as though he was after the latest election bulletin. An hour later Joe issued an extra and announced: “Latest returns show a decided gain in the Barrett family. With all the precincts heard fram I am elected father of a new ten pound boy. There is nothing to concede and nothing is in doubt. Put out the rooster.”

- A newsclipping (not cited or dated) concerns the death of Joe’s mother:
“Jos. Barratt to-day received the sad news of his mother’s death which occurred at Corby, Northamptonshire, England. on the 3d day of July. She only survived her life’s partner for a few months. Her life was one constant round of domestic duties, interspersed and brightened with deeds of love, and illumined with an intelligent christian faith. Her departure insures her entrance upon the reward awaiting those who live not for themselves alone.”
