Boorman Charles John 60 Martley 6c 123

From a descendant:
- Charles John Boorman (1834-1894) was a Chemist, born in Tunbridge Wells in Kent and he married Helen Egerton (although listed as Ellen in one census).
- Charles John Boorman, yes, they did move around a bit and the Chemist thing that seemed to have started with him kept on all through the family but stopped with [great grandson Anthony Raymond Boorman]. Charles was in the North of England for a few years. I have no idea why but he was listed as an assistant Chemist (He also had a part time job as an Insurance Agent for the North British and Mercantile Insurance Company) and on qualifying as a chemist moved back to Worcestershire where he set up Boorman and Company Chemists. However after he died Maurice did have a bit of trouble. He went bankrupt but then set the company up again only for it to go bankrupt again in 1928.
- Told by another researcher that “Charles John Boorman may have been involved with the development of the famous Worcestershire sauce!! But when he contacted Lea and Perrins who make it they said all of their records had been destroyed in a fire. Conspiracy theories are ongoing!!!! as Lea and Perrins were accused of stealing the recipe.”

From another researcher:
“Charles John. The 1841 census shows the widowed mother as "Louisa" but I have no doubt that this is the right family. The mother is a chemist living at Mount Ephraim, Tunbridge Wells.”
Charles, at 7, is the eldest of 4 children when he appears on the census of 1841 at Mount Ephraim Terrace, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. Charles's father has already died and his mother is running a chemist's shop at this address.
In 1861 the census finds Charles working as an assistant chemist to William Henderson Bell in St Pancras, London.
Charles's death was recorded at Martley, Worcestershire in the 2nd quarter 1894 (Vol 6c - 123) he was aged about 60 years. Charles actually died on 27 Jun 1894 and his executor, his wife Helen, was granted probate on his will at the Worcestershire Probate Office on 18 Jul 1894. Charles left an estate valued at £1397-14s-9d.

RESEARCH NOTES
In the 1851 census there are a number of possibilities for Edward Boorman:
- Edward Boorman, 15, b Hawkhurst Kent, s/o Alfred and Ann, living in Horsmonden
- Edward Boorman, 15, b Staplehurst Kent, s/o Edward and Martha in Staplehurst [perhaps elsewhere in this tree?]
- Edward Boorman, 15, b Staplehurst Kent, s/o John & Ann in Staplehurst [elsewhere in tree]
None fit with a father named Charles.

Similarily, in the 1841 census, which if any is him?
- Edward Boorman, 5, Kent, s/o Edward and Sarah, living in St Mary Dover
- Edward Boorman, 5, Kent, s/o Wm & Constance, living in Marden
- Edward Boorman, 6, Kent, s/o Alfred & Ann, living Hawkhurst
Still no exact fit.
Edward married Harriet. Born abt 1840 in Icklesham, Sussex, England.
They had the following children:
1513i.
Kate BOORMAN (~1865-)
1514ii.
Fred BOORMAN (1869-)

RESEARCH NOTES
There are no birth registraions for Julia Boorman in this time period. The earliest 2 are:
- 1844 Births Jun 1844
Boorman Julia Maidstone 5 319
- 1865 Births Dec 1865
Boorman Julia Tunbridge 2a 486
Perhaps she was born just before the start of civil registration in mid 1837?

There is another Julia E Boorman listed in the census, who was born about 1838 but born in Boughton Malherbe Kent. In 1871 she lived there as a married servant/cook to the Kinstons family. In 1881 & 1891 & 1901 she’s living with her husband George Boorman and family in Woowich London. She is likely the Julia Elizabeth Boorman, age 71 who died Q3 1909 in Woolwich RD… Boorman is her married name, so this is NOT a match.

Perhaps she went by the name of Allday, her step-father’s surname. When her mother remarried early in 1844 she would probably have been 6. But hhe following death is 20 years too young:
- 1936 Deaths Mar 1936
Allday Julia E 78 [b. 1858] Warwick 6d 1115 - NOT a match.

Is this the right Julia? NO. She would have been about 76 in 1913, and the apparently matching death registration says the following person was 69 when she died in Maidstone RD in Q4 1913:
- 1913 National Probate Calendar for Julia Boorman
“BOORMAN Julia of 16 Charles street Maidstone spinster died 2 Oct 1913 Probate London 25 Oct [1913] to John Boorman commercial traveller and Frederick Cording insurance agent. Effects £1966 15s.”

Early in 1861 there was an Emily Julia Boorman who died in Maidstone. No age listed. This can’t be the right one as our Julia is listed later in the 1861 census. It’s also possible that this 1861 death was for the following young child:
Births Mar 1860
BOORMAN Emily Julia Maidstone 2a 476 - NOT a match.
