Fifth Generation
Family of William BOORMAN (43) & Ellen FOWLE
67. John BOORMAN (William4, John3, Thomas2, John1). Born on 16 Jun 1648 in Hawkhurst, Kent, England. Christened on 25 Jun 1648 in Hawkhurst, Kent, England. John died in Kent, England, in Mar 1724/5; he was 76. Buried on 23 Mar 1724/5 in Otham, Kent, England. Occupation: Miller.

From other researchers:
- John Boorman was born on 16 June 1648 in Hawkhurst, Kent, England to parents William Boorman and Ellen Fowle. John was baptized there shortly thereafter on 25 June 1648. Hawkhurst is about four miles south southwest of Cranbrook. This was during the English Civil War (1642-1651), a period of great political and social upheaval in Kent (and all of England).
- Sometime before 1676, John moved to Maidstone, Kent. Maidstone, a major town in Kent at that time, was about 12 miles north of Cranbrook on a main road. His occupation was a miller, most likely in a water mill that ground corn and perhaps other crops into flour.
- He married Elizabeth Maddox on 1 April 1676 in either Maidstone or Otham (according to the East Kent Marriage Index). Otham, a small village, was about three miles southeast of Maidstone.
- John and Elizabeth eventually moved to Birling, Kent, a small village about six miles northwest of Maidstone. They may have first moved to Marden, another small village about six miles south of Maidstone. The baptisms of five children of John and Elizabeth have been found in church baptismal records: George (29 February 1680/1 in Marden), Mary (23 June 1682 in Birling), twins Elizabeth and Ellen (12 September 1684 in Birling), and John (27 December 1686 in Birling).
- John was buried on 23 March 1724/5 in Otham.
On 1 Apr 1676 when John was 27, he married Elizabeth MADDOX in Otham or Maidstone, Kent, England. Born in 1659 in Maidstone, Kent, England. Christened on 5 Apr 1659 in All Saints Church, Maidstone, Kent, England.

From other researchers:
- Elizabeth Maddox was christened on 5 Apr 1659 at All Saints Church in Maidstone, Kent, England. If she was baptized shortly after her birth, she would have been barely 17 years old (possibly still 16) at the time of her marriage. However, it was not uncommon at that time for baptisms of children to be delayed for months or even years. Children were sometimes baptized together in groups of two or three. So, Elizabeth could have been older than 17 when she got married.
- Elizabeth's death/burial date and place have not been positively identified. There were several Elizabeth Boormans in church records that could have been the right one.
They had the following children:
91i.
92ii.
Mary BOORMAN (1682-)
93iii.
Elizabeth BOORMAN (Twin) (1684-)
94iv.
Ellen BOORMAN (Twin) (1684-)

Jun 1648 in Hawkhurst, Kent, England.
