RESEARCH NOTES:
- 1837? Marriage NOT listed in Kilkhampton Parish records 1539-1839 film #0897356 Perhaps Launcells? - FreeBMD records start Sep 1837 - no record found between Sep 1837 - Dec 1840 in Cornwall.
- Marr 30 Mar 1837 at Launcells, Cornwall to Grace LARKE (marriage ref C.Boorman 2011, from Cornwall Marriage index (not found)). She was born c1819 at Launcells, Cornwall. - Grace’s last name is NOT a certainty.
- 1861 Census for Kilkhampton, living in household 16 (possibly next door to William and Grace Andrew) lived the Barrett family: John Barrett, his wife Ann and Children, Emma, John Jr. and Norah A. and their children William and Elizabeth (Mary Grace must have already been married, didn't check for that date yet).
abt 1837 when William was 27, he married Grace E. Larke OR Brimacombe in England. Born ca 1819 in Launcells, Cornwall, England. Grace E. Larke OR Brimacombe died in Kilkhampton, Cornwall, England, on 21 Jan 1864; she was 45. Buried on 2 Feb 1864 in Kilkhampton, Cornwall, England.

- 1863?: Death as per tombstone in Kilkhampton Anglican Church graveyard:
In memory of Grace, wife of William Andrew who died Jan 21 1863. Aged 47 years

RESEARCH NOTES:
- 2 possible last names: William Andrew’s marriage could be to Grace Larke, Cornwall Marriage Index, Parish Launcells on 30 Mar 1837 OR Grace Brimacombe on 9 Apr 1835 in Stoke Gabriel, Devon - both were born Launcells!.
In the 1851 Census there was a James Brimacombe living with William and Grace listed as a servant. He was in fact, Grace Brimacombe's sister's son. I found her christening in 1822 whereas Grace Larke was christened (in the same church records) in 1819. On the 1851 census, her approx year of birth is 1819. So there are arguments for each Grace. Both the Brimacombe family and the Larke family seem to have been in Launcells for quite some time.
- Tombstone information doesn’t match with other sources (age in census, year of burial etc.) - perhaps the tombstone was worn and difficult to read (especially the number “4”). Was she born in 1819 or 1816 - likely 1819? If she was buried in 1864, age 44, then she must have died the same year rather than 1863.
- Can’t find baptism as Grace Larke on the Cornwall OPC site (likely a gap in coverage).
They had the following children:
845i.
Mary Grace ANDREW (1838-1871)
846ii.
William ANDREW (1841-1901)
847iii.
Elizabeth ANDREW (1846-1924)
501. John ANDREW (Honour GRIGG7, Elizabeth CORNISH6, Philip5, Samuel4, Gideon3, Phillip2, John1). Born bef 1812 in Kilkhampton, Cornwall, England. Christened on 25 Oct 1812 in Kilkhampton, Cornwall, England.

- 1812 BAPTISM: John Davis, Rector, Kilkhampton, Other sources: CHR. IGI; & Bishop;s Trans. Father’s Will Kilkhampton, IGI Batch P007171

RESEARCH NOTES:
- one source has John married to Fanny (no dates); however there is another John Andrew married to a Fanny, so this may be mistaken identity.
- another source says John married Mary Glover on 4 May 1818 - again mistaken identity as this John would only have been 6 years old [baptised 1812, assumed as an infant].
- 1881 Census: not listed
- may have died young
502. Richard ANDREW (Honour GRIGG7, Elizabeth CORNISH6, Philip5, Samuel4, Gideon3, Phillip2, John1) . Born in 1814 in Kilkhampton, Cornwall, England. - 1842 IMMIGRATION: He emigrated in 1842 from England to PEI with his wife and daughter.
(As reported in article on William Andrew published in "Prince Edward Island" book published approx 1906 by B.F. Bowen & Co., page 315): Charles Andrew, father of the subject [William], came to Prince Edward Island in 1842 and located at North St. Eleanors on the property on which he now resides, on which he has since been successfully engaged in agricultural pursuits. The place is one of the choice farms of the locality and here Mr Andrew is enjoying life to its utmost. At the age of 85 years, he is a fine specimen of strong, rugged manhood, being in the enjoyment of excellent health aside from slight rheumatic troubles. He has become the father of 9 children, 6 sons and 3 daughters, of whom the subject of this sketch [William] is the 4th in order of birth.”

Natives of Cornwall, England. Immigrated from England to Canada, sailing on the brig "British Lady" on April 8, 1842, landing at Yeo's Shipyard, Bideford River, PEI on May 20, 1842. Arrived at N. St. Elearnors, PEI on May 21, 1842 and established a home on the "Broad" farm, then owned by the Hon. James Yeo and more lately by Alfred Simpson. By life's end, Charles and Mary owned 422 acres which became the farms of Harry C. Andrew and Raymond Andrew, Fred Barrett and Samuel Beaton.

“Charles Andrew emigrated from Kilkhampton County, Devon, England in 1842. He and part of his family landed at the Yeo Shipyard at Port Hill, after spending over one hundred days at sea. He left his family at Port HIll while he walked to North St Eleanors with an ox and a sack of potatoes where he started to clear his farm. He built a log house, planted his potatoes and then broiught his family from Port Hill to North St. Elanors by boat where the remainder of his family were born. One of his sons William Andrew was Sheriff of Prince County for sometime. At the present time [1973] there are seven houses that were once owned by sons of the late Charles Andrew that have been moved to the Village of St Eleanors. Benjamin Andrew, South Drive, is the only male descendant still living in PEI with the Andrew name.”

RESEARCH NOTES
- Cemetery transcript refers to her as Mary Hopgood [not as Mary Wood as first recorded]

- Mary’s pedigree continues to be illusive. I cannot find her baptism records (and therefore her parents names), although her father is given as William on Mary’s marriage certificate [Mary’s birth date is known from family sources]. The earliest 1841 census is also inconclusive - at the time Mary would have been very pregnant with a “base” child (to be named Mary Ann), so as expected I cannot find a Mary living with her father William, so it’s very hard to link the family together that way. By 1842, Mary married Charles Andrew in Stratton and quickly set sail for Canada taking their daughter Mary Ann with them to a new land and away from family who likely shunned them.

- As far as her father William Hopgood goes, there are a LOT of possibilities depending on his age and location. One of the most likely candidate (based on location) is a William Hopgood, son of Susannah [Hopgood], base born - he was baptised in 1787, making him 36 when Mary was born. I cannot find a definitive marriage for this William. If Mary’s father William was indeed the son of Susanna, I have found her lineage, and Mary could have been distantly related to her husband through the Neale & Adams line.

- There are lots of Hopgoods listed in the Kilkhampton parish records (baptisms, marriages, burials back to 1600s), but not our Mary... Looking at the Hopgood baptisms for the Parish Church in Kilkhampton, circa 1823 I see no baptism for a Mary Hopgood daughter of William. Perhaps she was baptized in one of the other churches (Bible Christian or Methodist) or she was from one of the nearby parishes within the Civil registration district of Stratton. Or perhaps she was born in Devon or farther afield?

Could this be her?
