- from a descendant:
“John Edward Boorman’s third child, Erie Vann Boorman, was my grandfather. He was born in Buffalo, but eventually moved to Utah with his wife in 1919 to work in a potash plant on the salt flats by Wendover. His second and last child was my father, Erie Vann Boorman Jr.”
“Erie Vann Boorman was born on 13 March 1893 in Buffalo, New York. He was only seven years old when his father, John Edward Boorman, died on 23 October 1900 in the Buffalo State Hospital. Erie and his three siblings were then raised by his mother, Ada Elizabeth Taylor Boorman, in the Buffalo area until sometime between 1905 and 1910, when they moved to a small town named Fulton (not to be confused with Fulton County) in Oswego County, New York. Oswego County borders the southeast shore of Lake Ontario. Fulton is located on the Oswego River, about 15 miles south of Lake Ontario and 30 miles northwest of Syracuse, New York.
As a young man, Erie miraculously survived two brushes with almost certain death. When he was 18, he was assisting in the management of a club house at Cranberry Lake in the Adirondack Mountains. He and a friend were staying in a tent in the woods at night. On 2 August 1911, a tornado ripped through that area while he was asleep on a cot in the tent. A large tree was blown over and crashed down directly on top of the tent, destroying it and shattering the cot on which Erie was sleeping. As reported in The Fulton Times newspaper: "The guests at the cottage were horror stricken at the accident, believing that both young men occupying the tent must have met with instant death." Miraculously, Erie survived while suffering only a badly bruised arm and back, and a cut on his face that required two stitches to close.
When he was 25, he was working the night shift as the foreman of the nitric acid plant at the Semet-Solvay World War I munitions factory in Split Rock, New York (just west of Syracuse). On 2 July 1918, a big fire broke out. Erie went over to assist, but ordered his men to stay behind in their own building, and they all escaped injury. He and seven other men were standing in front of TNT Building No. 2 when a massive explosion occurred. As reported in The Fulton Patriot newspaper: "An explosion came and when Boorman recovered consciousness he was on the other side of the building, all bruised up, and the other seven men were dead. Boorman was blown at least 150 feet by the explosion. When he recovered he insisted in carrying a man with a broken leg out of the danger zone." Erie suffered some injuries to his face, his right wrist, and one of his ankles. It certainly seems like a miracle that he was not killed.
About two years earlier, on 1 July 1916, Erie married Mildred Richardine Kellar in Phoenix, New York (where she was living). Phoenix is located about 10 miles upstream (southeast) from Fulton on the Oswego River. Erie and Mildred's first son, Richard Lewis Boorman, was born 9 September 1917 in Phoenix. In 1919, because of health issues primarily related to the munitions factory explosion, Erie was transferred to work at a potash plant owned by the same company, on the salt flats in a small town named Salduro, Utah. Salduro is located about 10 miles east of Wendover, Utah, and about 110 miles west of Salt Lake City, Utah. Erie and Mildred's second son, Erie Vann Boorman Jr., was born 8 July 1920 in Salt Lake City (there were no appropriate hospital facilities in Salduro or Wendover). The potash plant was eventually shut down, and the family was forced to move to Salt Lake City in early 1922. Erie Sr. ran a grocery store there for about two years. He then got a job at a new U.S. Steel plant in Ironton, Utah in April of 1924. He was hired to work in the benzol plant of the coke and coal chemicals division because of his previous work experience at the munitions factory in Split Rock, New York, and the potash plant in Salduro, Utah. Ironton was located between Provo and Springville in Utah County, about 50 miles south of Salt Lake City.
Erie could not find a place to rent in Provo, but found one in Springville, only a block from Main Street. That is where Erie Sr. and Mildred raised their two sons, Richard and Erie Jr.. In 1953, Erie Sr. was named superintendent of coke and coal chemicals at the huge U.S. Steel plant called Geneva Works that opened about 10 miles north of Ironton in 1944 to enhance national steel output during World War II. He directed operations of 252 coke ovens and coal chemical producing facilities at Geneva Works and related operations at Ironton until his retirement in 1958.
Erie Sr. spent his retirement years with Mildred at their home on 149 South 200 West in Springville. He died in a Provo hospital on 1 February 1965, and was buried in the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville on 4 February 1965. Mildred was buried beside him after she died on 2 March 1990 in Provo. On their joint headstone, Erie Sr.'s middle name is misspelled as "Van" (instead of the correct spelling, "Vann").”
On 1 Jul 1916 when Erie Vann was 23, he married
Mildred Richardine KELLAR , daughter of Richard Soloman KELLAR & Mabel E LEWIS, in Phoenix, Oswego, New York, USA.
Born on 12 Jul 1894 in Syracuse, Onondaga, New York, USA. Mildred Richardine died in Provo, Utah, USA, on 2 Mar 1990; she was 95. Buried in 1990 in Evergreen Cemetery, Springville, Utah, USA.

RESEARCH NOTES
From a descendant:
- There is some confusion regarding his given first and middle names. He is in the 1905 New York State Census as D. Taylor Boorman, living with his mother, Ada E. Boorman. He has been referred to as Daniel Taylor Boorman in some family notes. However, he is in the 1900 and 1940 U.S. Censuses as Taylor D. Boorman. He is also listed in the records of Forest Lawn Cemetery in Buffalo, New York, as Taylor D. Boorman. Moreover, and of greatest significance, his 1917-1918 World War I draft registration cards are both for Taylor D. Boorman. The best evidence appears to support Taylor Daniel Boorman as his correct name. [Sources: websites FamilySearch.org and findagrave.com]
